Varun Chakravarthy delivered a ball after the Umpire signaled a dead ball. Pathum Nissanka smashed it straight into the hands of Axar Patel, but the all-rounder lobs it over the rope for a six. However, the ball was deemed illegal as the umpire canceled the delivery.
The India vs Sri Lanka match saw the Indians smash the first 200+ total in this Asia Cup, with Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma smashing some stunning hits in their respective innings. The match, though, could not affect the results anyway, since they have reached the Asia Cup 2025 finals.
The umpire ruled out Pathum Nissanka's six with a dead-ball call
Chasing India's 203-run target, the Lankan batters made a great start to their innings after the early dismissal of opener Kusal Mendis. However, Pathum Nissanka had probably chosen this match to showcase his immense talent in the Super-4 match of the Asia Cup.
In the 10th over of the chase, when Varun Chakravarthy bowled to Pathum Nissanka, the umpire announced the second ball of the over as a dead ball midway through the bowler's run-up. However, Chakrarvarthy delivered the ball, and Nissanka also hit it straight into the hands of Axar Patel.
Axar, however, misjudged the catch and lobbed it over the fence. Just when he looked frustrated, the umpire ruled out the six, claiming that it was a pre-declared dead ball. The umpire called it a dead ball because he was waiting for Abhishek Sharma to leave the field.
Chaos on the field! 😳

Pathum Nissanka unsettles Indian bowlers with a Stunning century
Though knocked out of the competition, the Lankan opener Pathum Nissanka seemed motivated enough to dominate the Indian bowlers, especially in the absence of their most seasoned and experienced pacer, Jasprit Bumrah.
Nissanka was flawless during their batting innings and went on to score his maiden T20I hundred. He got out for 107 off just 58 balls with 7 fours and 6 sixes in his innings. Nissanka's wicket fell on the first ball of the 20th over of the game.
However, Kusal Perera was the only batter to have scored runs in the partnership alongside Pathum Nissanka. Perera scored a decent 58 off just 32 balls and contributed to a partnership that led to the match going in favour of the Lankans.

Despite having picked a crucial wicket in the very first over of the game, Hardik Pandya was not brought back into the attack by the Indian skipper. He instead relied on the spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy for the middle overs.
While Harshit Rana replaced Jasprit Bumrah in the Indian playing XI, he, despite going for runs, was handed the ball to defend 12 runs in the final over. Having given away 11 runs to Dasun Shanaka, the match was tied as the scores were level at 202 in 20 overs.
