Watch: Jack Edwards Takes Unbelievable Reflex Catch In BBL 2023-24 Qualifier

Sydney Sixers player Jack Edwards pulled off a bird out of the air and dismissed Brisbane Heat player Spencer Johnson for 11 runs from 7 balls. The incident took place during the 3rd ball of the 16th over of the Heat innings. Sixers were able to win the first qualifier of the BBL 2023-24 by 39 runs and booked a place in the final of the tournament.
With 51 runs needed off 22 balls, Spencer Johnson tried to attack Jack Edwards and stepped down against him. However, the powerful hit went stuck in the hands of Edwards and he took a tremendous catch in his follow-through to dismiss Johnson.

Batting first at the Carrara Oval in Queensland, Sydney Sixers put up a score of 152/8 in their 20 overs. Daniel Hughes and Jack Edwards tried to give their team a decent start but Edwards was dismissed for 16 runs off 8 balls. Josh Philippe also didn’t stay at the crease for long and he was also dismissed for 5 runs from 5 balls.
However, Daniel Hughes continued his attack from the other end and hit 42 runs from 33 balls. Hughes hit a total of 4 fours and 1 six throughout his innings. After the departure of Hughes, Sydney Sixers captain Moises Henriques took charge and scored 59 runs from 50 balls. Henriques hit a total of 4 fours and three sixes throughout his stay at the crease.
Moises Henriques didn’t get any support from the other end and the other batsmen were dismissed without touching the ten-run mark. At last, Sydney Sixers were able to end their innings at 152/8. Michael Neser was the best performer with the ball for Brisbane Heat and picked up a total of 3 wickets.
Spencer Johnson and Paul Walter also picked up 2 wickets with the ball for the Brisbane Heat and broke the backbone of the Sydney Sixers batting lineup. Xavier Bartlett picked up one wicket.
Chasing down the target, Josh Brown and Jimmy Pierson gave a decent start to their innings and put up a stand of 36 runs for the first wicket for Brisbane Heat. Brown was dismissed for 15 runs from 22 balls whereas Peirson had to walk back for 26 runs from 25 balls.
However, were never able to maintain the required rate and went on to score runs with a very slow scoring rate. Nathan McSweeney and Matt Renshaw were also not able to do much and were dismissed for 11 and 16 runs respectively. Paul Walter and Xavier Bartlett were dismissed for a duck whereas Michael Neser had to walk back for 6 runs. Spencer Johnson and Matthew Kunhemann didn’t do much and walked back for 11 and 3 runs.
Ben Dwarshius starred with the ball for the Sydney Sixers and picked up a five-wicket haul. Jack Edwards and Hayden Kerr picked up two wickets each whereas, Steven O’Keefe picked up just 1 wicket.
Sydney Sixers were able to mark a place in the final of the Big Bash League 2023-24 and it will be a home final for the three-time champions.
