Former England pacer James Anderson has shared his views on the never-ending comparison between Sachin Tendulkar and the famed 'Fab Four'.
The 'Fab Four' consists of India's Virat Kohli, Australia's Steve Smith, England's Joe Root, and New Zealand's Kane Williamson. The quartet has been the face of cricket since the early 2010s.
Batting Fab Four - The modern-day greats
All four batsmen are known for their consistency and are now widely regarded as true greats of the game.
Any discussion about batting greatness eventually leads to comparisons with Tendulkar, arguably the most decorated batsman of all time. Tendulkar held almost all the major batting records when he retired in 2013, and most of them are still intact.
He played 200 Tests and scored a record 15921 runs with the help of 51 centuries and 68 half-centuries. No cricketer has played more Tests or scored more runs or centuries than Tendulkar. In ODIs, Tendulkar scored 18426 runs with the help of 49 centuries and 96 fifties. Even in the 50-over format, no player has played more matches or scored more runs than Tendulkar.
At the time of his retirement, Tendulkar also held the record for scoring the most ODI centuries before it was broken by Kohli in 2023. Overall, in international cricket, Tendulkar has scored the most runs and centuries. The likes of Kohli, Smith, Root, and Williamson are well behind Tendulkar statistically, but their consistent displays have often made the fans and experts compare them with the former India batsman.
James Anderson on the comparison between Sachin Tendulkar and the Fab Four
However, James Anderson still believes there is no comparison between Sachin Tendulkar and the Fab Four. In a recent podcast, the England legend rubbished talk of any of the modern-day batsmen being better than Tendulkar.
"Where do those four (Kohli, Root, Smith, Kane) compare with Tendulkar?" asked TalkSport.
In reply, James Anderson, who has played against Tendulkar as well as the other four, said: "Just below Tendulkar".

James Anderson himself is one of the most fast-bowlers of all time. Before retiring from Tests last year, the right-arm pacer picked up 704 wickets in 188 Tests. No pacer has taken more wickets than Anderson in Test history.
