A thrilling match was witnessed between Gloucestershire and Glamorgan at Cheltenham in Division Two of the County Championship. To everyone's surprise, the match went down to the wire and ended in a tie.

Home team Gloucestershire set Glamorgan a mammoth target of 593 runs to win the match. But the Glamorgan batters put up an excellent batting performance, led by their captain Sam Northeast, to reach a point where they needed one run to win the game off the last ball with just the last wicket in hand.

Gloucestershire's right-arm quick Ajeet Singh Dale was bowling the last over of the match with James Mcllroy on strike. With one needed off the last ball and with one wicket in hand, both teams were nervous and probably didn't deserve to lose from here.

Dale ran in to bowl the last ball and bowled a good length ball on the stumps which Mcllroy tried to smash across the line. But the batter got an outside edge and was brilliantly caught behind by Gloucestershire's wicketkeeper James Bracey.

Bracey had taken out his right glove to attempt a throw to the stumps if needed. He was almost wrong-footed but maintained his balance in the end to hang on to a superb one-handed catch behind the stumps.

Watch: James Bracey takes a fine catch to deny Glamorgan the world record

Bracey ran across the ground to celebrate the catch and was mobbed by his teammates later. Both teams registered scores of below 200 in their first innings but put on mammoth scores in their second innings.

The historic game ends in a tie

James Bracey had an excellent game with the bat as he scored a brilliant double-century in Gloucestershire's second innings. He scored an unbeaten 204 off 231 balls, which included 20 fours and 4 sixes. In the same innings, Australian opener Cameron Bancroft batted excellently for 184 off 266 balls while Miles Hammond scored a quickfire 121 off 110 balls.

Chasing a world record 593 to win, Glamorgan needed a miracle to give the home team a fight. Australian international Marnus Labuschagne scored a gritty century to give his team a solid base. He scored 119 off 165 balls but the other batters kept losing wickets despite getting good starts.

But skipper Sam Northeast stood at one end to lead the chase. He was dismissed with Glamorgan still needing 49 runs to win with just 2 wickets in hand. Mason Crane kept chipping away as they moved closer to the target and brought the equation down to one needed off the last ball. But James Mcllroy failed to get a run off the last ball and was dismissed in an anti-climatic fashion.
