Ben Duckett hits a brilliant fifty

Duckett played a wonderful knock for the English team and registered a brilliant fifty against the visitors in the first innings. Despite losing his opening partner Zak Crawley in the first over, Duckett didn't lose his focus and countered the threat of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj very well.

Ben Duckett 'bazballed' his way through the initial overs and completed his half-century off 68 balls, with eight fours. The 30-year-old left-handed batter looked set for a big score, but his innings was brought to an end by the premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah in the 29th over.

On the third ball of the over, Bumrah bowled a full-length delivery outside off-stump to Ben Duckett. Duckett got forward to drive, but he only managed to get a thick inside-edge, and the ball went on to hit the middle-stump. Bumrah was quite pumped up after picking up the wicket, and he came up with a fiery reaction.

Speaking on-air while doing commentary for Sky Sports, Nasser Hussain and Dinesh Karthik lauded Bumrah for getting a timely breakthrough for India.

“You need a breakthrough, you go to Bumrah and he delivers. Now we have the No. 1 batter in the world in Root against the No. 1 bowler," Nasser Hussain said.

“It is amazing the impact Bumrah seems to have with every spell he bowls. A champion bowler has found a way to get that dismissal," Dinesh Karthik stated.

He is No. 1 in the world for a reason - Michael Atherton

Bumrah had earlier opened his account by dismissing Zak Crawley in the first over of the innings, and talking about thi,s Michael Atherton hailed the pacer and said (as quoted by Sky Sports):

"He is No. 1 in the world for a reason. He has a unique action and while the ball to Crawley moved in, he can move it both ways. It was a very difficult ball to face and the conditions were perfect - so the question is what can you do as an opener?

"Modern openers bat in a glass-half-full way and don't play as they feel the ball is going to move, which plays to their advantage in scoring..But, for deliveries like that, if you hold your shape, you have a chance."
