The man in form, India’s vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah has shushed off all the criticism that surrounded the Indian team after they lost the 1st Test in Hyderabad by 28 runs. The 30-year-old right-arm pacer has blanked England’s hopes of doubling their lead in the 5-match series, by castling the stumps of tailender Tom Hartley for 36 off 47 to help the Indians bring the series back on level terms (1-1).
Jasprit Bumrah after initially remaining quiet at the start of the 4th innings, made his presence felt in the later stages of the game as racked up 3 very wickets of Johnny Bairstow, Ben Foakes, and Hartley to finish the 2nd Test in Vizag with 9 wickets to his name, including a 2nd innings 6-wicket haul.

He is having a very good Test series against England and when the 3rd Test begins from 15th February onwards, Bumrah will be playing in front of a Gujarati home support as Rajkot’s Saurashtra Cricket Association stadium will host the middle part of the series.
India will enter the 3rd Test with a lot of momentum, slightly more than what England came with in the 2nd Test. The visitors had started off this series just as exactly they did in their previous tour of India in 2020/21. England had won the 1st of the 4-match series but went on to lose all of the remaining 3 Tests and headed back home with a 3-1 drubbing.
The Three Lions are still the last foreign team to register a red-ball series victory in India and let’s not forget, its not just the first real test of Bazball style of play in Indian conditions but it is also a challenge for head coach Brendon McCullum to repeat what the Alastair Cook led English team managed to do back in 2012.
But now that the series is again on level terms, England will have to restart their attempt to upset the hosts and they have 10 days in hand to prepare. The bad news for them is that senior players like Ravindra Jadeja, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul are expected to return for the 3rd Test in Rajkot, therefore, England must come up with a solid strategy.
“He is a champion player for us”, Rohit Sharma Lauds Jasprit Bumrah For MOTM Winning Performance
Jasprit Bumrah was adjudged as man of the match for the 2nd Test due to his 1st inning figures of 6/45 and 2nd inning figures of 3/46. People were expecting Yashasvi Jaiswal to grab the award but Bumrah well and truly deserved the award as he was the one who defended Jaiswal’s runs in the 2nd innings.
During the post match presentation, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was all praise for Bumrah for his incredible spell, calling him a champion player and appreciated the bowling unit for standing up for the occasion.
“He is a champion player for us. When you win a game like that, you have to look at the overall performance as well. We were good with the bat. You know winning a Test in these conditions is not easy. Wanted our bowlers to step up and they did that.” – Rohit Sharma said during post match interview.
