Jasprit Bumrah is currently on a mission to save India from a follow-on in the ongoing third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against Australia at The Gabba in Brisbane. The Indian pacer showed great intent and courage by playing a cracking pull shot against Pat Cummins.

On the first ball of the 68th over of India’s innings, Jasprit Bumrah bagged a remarkable six that would not have certainly impressed the Australian captain Pat Cummins, as the hosts are in a hurry to finish their stay as soon as possible at The Gabba.

Bumrah got inside the line of the ball, which was short and angling down leg, and smashed the pull over long leg to hit a stunning six off Cummins. A big smile appeared on Bumrah’s face after playing the cracking shot against the Australian captain during the crunch situation of the ongoing third Test at The Gabba.

Jasprit Bumrah is in great form in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, where he is the leading wicket-taker, but currently he has the job in the hands to save India from the follow-on, and for which he must stay at the crease for at least a couple of overs against Australia at The Gabba.

Akash Deep and Jasprit Bumrah help India avoid follow-on at the Gabba

Earlier, Ravindra Jadeja played a brilliant innings despite not having any support from the other end after KL Rahul and Nitish Kumar Reddy’s dismissals in the ongoing third Test against Australia in Brisbane. Jadeja added 67 runs with Rahul and 53 runs with Reddy at The Gabba.

Speaking about the Indian all-rounder’s dismissal, the Australian field was perfectly set, and Jadeja holed out to deep mid-wicket as Pat Cummins delivered a high bouncer, and he tried to pull it, attempting to roll his wrists over. However, it was always going to be tough.

Jadeja mistimed the shot, sending it high and towards deep mid-wicket, and Mitchell Marsh ran in quickly, slid forward, and took a fantastic two-handed catch to dismiss Jadeja for 77 off 123 balls, including 7 fours and 1 six, leaving India at risk of a follow-on at The Gabba.

However, Akash Deep and Jasprit Bumrah have done it for India, as the tourists successfully avoided the follow-on, and the duo continued to tire out the Australian bowlers in the ongoing Gabba Test. Bumrah and Akash remained unbeaten at 10 and 27, respectively, as the bad light ended the play.

Rohit Sharma joins rare list after opting to bowl first in Brisbane

The extraordinary last-wicket stand between Akash Deep and Jasprit Bumrah helped India to cross the 245+ to avoid the follow-on on Day 4 of the ongoing Gabba Test, and the dressing room was absolutely jubilant.

Now, India would love to draw the third Test to avoid conceding the lead to the Aussies. Notably, Rohit Sharma became the first Indian captain to choose to field first in a Test in Australia since Sourav Ganguly did so at The Gabba in 2003.

This marked the ninth time India has opted to field first in Australia, with four of those Tests ending in defeats and the rest in draws. The last time a visiting team won after choosing to field first in Australia was South Africa in Hobart in 2016.
