Ashes 2021-22: Watch - Joe Root Running After Painful Blow To The Nether Region Has Ricky Ponting In Splits
England captain Joe Root cannot seem to catch a break in the Ashes series. The 30-year-old has to watch his side fumble again and again against Australia and in addition to that, he was struck on the “box”, twice on Day 4.
Before the start of play, Root copped a blow in the unmentionables following which, he didn’t take the field in the afternoon session. Finally, when it was his turn to bat in the last session of the day, Mitchell Starc delivered a devastating delivery right in Root’s soft spot.
He was down for the count and needed to take a couple of pills for the pain. Although he managed to get up and play the next few deliveries, his running between the wickets had the Channel 7 commentators going absolutely crazy. Ricky Ponting, in particular, was brought down to tears watching Root’s misery.

On the other hand, Bill Lawry and Rod Marsh were a lot more understanding of Joe Root’s pain in the moment. Starc and Root’s partner, Ben Stokes, also winced in pain just looking at the visuals.

Root needed about four minutes to get back on his feet and continue playing the rest of the day. Unfortunately, the blow softened him up and he lost the battle in the final over of Day 4. Starc did get his man eventually, this time the right way, as Root nicked a delivery outside off to hand Alex Carey a comfortable catch.
England is now on 82/4, needing a whopping 386 runs on the final day to win the Adelaide Test and level the series.
