Ravindra Jadeja’s cameo was cut short in dramatic fashion as New Zealand once again showcased their exceptional fielding skills in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025 group match against India at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai on Sunday (March 2).
Facing Matt Henry, Ravindra Jadeja attempted a cut shot off a back-of-length delivery outside off but failed to keep it down. Kane Williamson, who was stationed at backward point, reacted swiftly, diving low to his left to complete a stunning catch with his left hand.
The ball was dipping fast, but Williamson’s sharp reflexes ensured Ravindra Jadeja’s exit at a crucial juncture of the match in Dubai. India was already struggling to build momentum and was hit with yet another setback at the wrong time, as Ravindra Jadeja walked back after scoring 16 off 20 balls against New Zealand.

The Black Caps were just amazing on the field as their bowling, as a total of eight catches were taken against the Men in Blue. Will Young, Glenn Phillips, and Kane Williamson each grabbed two stunning catches to help the Kiwis restrict the Indian cricket team to 249/9 in 50 overs in Dubai.

Meanwhile, Matt Henry etched his name in the record books with a brilliant five-wicket haul against India on Sunday. With his stunning figures of 5/42, Henry recorded the second-best figures as a New Zealander in ICC Champions Trophy history, just behind Jacob Oram’s 5/36 against the USA in 2004. Shayne O'Connor is at the third spot with 5/46 against Pakistan in 2000.
Matt Henry over the moon with his record performance against India
Henry’s feat was even more special as he became the first bowler to claim a five-wicket haul against India in Champions Trophy history. During the mid-innings, the fast bowler has expressed his satisfaction with his performance against the Men in Blue in the CT 2025 group match.
Matt Henry was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz, “I think the way we came out there and the surface helped and put India under pressure. Very happy with the total but still need to do a big job with the bat. We talked about getting wickets, and the pressure was getting us wickets. There are some ebbs and flows on this wicket, and if we can put the pressure back on, that should help us.”
Brief highlight of India's innings against the Black Caps
Meanwhile, India posted a competitive total of 249 on the board, setting up an exciting chase for the New Zealand cricket team on the tricky surface of the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The innings started on a shaky note as Shubman Gill (2) fell LBW early, followed by Rohit Sharma (1) mistiming a pull shot.
Virat Kohli’s dismissal for just 11 runs off 14 balls left India struggling at 30/3. Shreyas Iyer (79) and Axar Patel (42) steadied the innings, but their slow approach hindered India’s chances to add more to the total. KL Rahul (23) fell soon, but Hardik Pandya’s quick 45 provided a late boost to their innings. With spin playing a role, Indian spinners Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Varun Chakravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav could test the Kiwis during their chase.
