Stylish Indian batter KL Rahul has made the most of the opportunity in the ongoing warm-up game against County Select XI in Durham.

India are without their several first-choice players in the ongoing warm-up game due to several reasons.

While the captain-vice-captain duo of Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane aren’t playing due to their respective niggles, the wicketkeeping duo of Rishabh Pant and Wriddhiman Saha were deemed unavailable due to Covid issues.

Rishabh Pant contracted with Covid earlier this month when he was at his relatives’ places, and, as a result, he did not travel with the Indian contingent to Durham. Pant, however, joined the Indian set-up on Wednesday after he returned negative.

Saha, meanwhile, is serving ten-day isolation as part of the UK Government’s protocols for close contacts to a covid infected person

Saha had come in contact with throwdown specialist, Garani, who tested positive for the Wuhan virus last week.

And, so, with both Pant and Saha unavailable, KL Rahul is donning the keeping gloves.

And, while he has struggled a bit behind the wickets against the Indian seamers, Rahul looked imperious during his stay in the middle during India’s first innings.

The Karnataka batter, who was playing his first FC game since March 2020, smashed a brilliant unbeaten 150-ball 101 before he retired.

This was Rahul’s first FC ton since his 149 against England at the Oval in September 2018.

Rahul is rightfully earning plaudits for his brilliant knock but apart from that, he is also getting praised for his brilliant gesture during his stay at the crease in the first innings.

It so happened that when KL Rahul was at the non-striker’s end, his baggy blue India cap accidentally fell on the ground.

Rahul immediately picked up the cap and, as a mark of immense respect towards the coveted cap, he proceeded to kiss it before putting it back on his head.
