Ruturaj Gaikwad didn’t have a great outing in the ongoing first T20I against Australia. The right-hander was involved in a terrible mix-up with his opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam.

In the chase of 209 runs, Yashasvi Jaiswal took India off the flier as he smashed four and six to proceed with the innings. But on the fifth ball of the over, he cost his team the wicket of Ruturaj Gaikwad, who is also the vice-captain of the team.

Yashasvi Jaiswal played the slower short ball from Marcus Stoinis towards the wide of fine leg. He called for a single and then looked for a second run but he immediately realised that it was risky. He sent back Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was in the middle of the pitch.

Ruturaj Gaikwad didn’t even attempt to run back because he knew that wouldn’t reach. It’s fair to say that it was Yashasvi Jaiswal’s poor call that landed the batter in trouble. He called him for a second and then said no.

While the mix-up between Ruturaj Gaikwad and Yashasvi Jaiswal disappointed many, one thing that caught the attention of many was Marcus Stonis’ reaction. The Australian all-rounder laughed evilly at the face of Jaiswal and mocked the batter for the error.

Ruturaj Gaikwad bagged the diamond duck and became the third Indian batter to achieve the feat in T20Is. He joined the likes of Amit Mishra and Jasprit Bumrah, who achieved the feat in 2016 and 2017 respectively.

Yashasvi Jaiswal perishes in the second over after a blistering start

After a mix-up with Ruturaj Gaikwad, Yashasvi Jaiswal also perished in the next over after that. He smashed Matthew short for four and six before getting out on the 3rd ball of the third over. He tried to take the bowler on but mistimed the shot and was caught inside the circle.

Yashasvi Jaiswal tried to loft the delivery over mid-off but didn’t quite get hold of it. He failed to get enough elevation and Steve Smith took a good overhead catch in the circle. The batter scored 21 runs off 8 balls and also smashed 2 fours and 2 sixes in his innings.
