Sri Lanka top-order batter Kusal Mendis utilized the Decision Review System (DRS) to reverse the caught-behind decision against him during the second ODI match against the Indian cricket team. Kusal Mendis survived despite the bizarre decision from the on-field umpire during the ongoing 50-over match.

India is taking on Sri Lanka in the second ODI of the three-match series at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday, August 4. Pathum Nissanka opened the batting with Avishka Fernando after the Sri Lanka skipper opted to bat first. However, the home team lost a wicket on the first ball of the match.

Siraj dismissed Nissanka, who scored a half-century in the series opener, for a golden duck in the ongoing 50-over match. The Sri Lankan opening batter had to depart to the dressing room without opening his account. Nissanka poked at the delivery that moved away from the right-handed batter after pitching.

The incident occurred in the 12th over of the Sri Lankan innings. Kusal Mendis was given out by Paul Reiffel despite missing the ball by a significant margin. Mendis was surprised by the late call from umpire Paul Reiffel. Spin bowler Axar Patel and wicketkeeper KL Rahul were not excited about the dismissal.

Mendis went for a review, and the replays showed he had missed the ball by a significant margin. The on-field umpire had to reverse his decision, and Mendis was declared not out.

Kusal Mendis and Avishka Fernando added a 74-run stand for the second wicket. Off-spinner Washington Sundar dismissed Fernando on the final ball of the 17th over. Avishka scored 40 runs off 62 balls, including five boundaries. Washington picked up the wicket of Mendis on the first ball of the next over.

Team India Fielded Same Playing XI During Second ODI Match

Kamindu Mendis and Jeffrey Vandersay replaced Wanindu Hasaranga and Mohamed Shiraz in the second ODI match against India. Hasaranga was ruled out of the match due to a hamstring injury. Mendis was picked over Shiraz to boost Sri Lanka's chances in the series. Mendis spin bowling can help the hosts.

India, on the other hand, backed the same team despite failing to secure victory during the series opener. The Indian team needs to play with a cautious approach in this match, unlike the previous game. They failed to chase down the 231-run target despite scoring more than 70 runs in the first 10 overs of their innings.

The second ODI between Sri Lanka and India marks the 150th ODI at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium. The other cricket venues that have hosted 150 or more ODI matches include Sharjah (249), Harare Sports Club (182), Sydney Cricket Ground (161), and Melbourne Cricket Ground (151).
