The 22-year-old Chennai Super Kings (CSK) right-arm pacer Matheesha Pathirana produced a jaw-dropping moment on the field in the ongoing match of the Indian Premier League 2025 on Sunday, March 30.
Matheesha Pathirana grabbed an absolute blinder to send the 24-year-old Rajasthan Royals (RR) wicketkeeper-batsman Dhruv Jurel packing at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.

Matheesha Pathirana stuns everyone with a sensational fielding performance
Pathirana, being a fast bowler, is not regarded as one of the best fielders in his team. However, he has, time and again, stunned the cricket world with his fielding efforts.
He did the same in the match against RR as he grabbed a screamer in the 14th over. On the first ball of the over, Dhruv Jurel played a booming lofted drive over cover to an overpitched delivery from Noor Ahmad.
However, he didn't make a good connection with the ball, and after a thick edge, it flew towards Pathirana, who put in a full-length dive forward to take the catch and send Dhruv Jurel packing for 7-ball 3.

RR told to back Dhruv Jurel
Speaking ahead of the match on ESPNCricinfo, former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer told Rajasthan Royals to provide backing to Dhruv Jurel. He said:
"The batting order, the three and four, Nitish Rana, again, used to play at number three. He's batting at four. Parag batted at four and did so well. So, they could swap numbers. And Dhruv Jurel, they need to trust Dhruv Jurel at five. And Hetmyer, again, you don't need to hold back your international players too late.
"You know why Hasaranga went in. You want your main batters to bat as many balls as possible. So, they need to go with an intent of winning the game and rather not being defensive. That's been RR's problem for a few times."
During the same interaction, Cheteshwar Pujara placed Dhruv Jurel on the same pedestal as Nicholas Pooran and said that he even has the ability to bat at No.3. He elaborated:
"And I completely agree on Wasim Bhai's point that Dhruv Jurel is someone who has been batting well for them. And if you're trying to save your best players for the last five or six overs, then you're too far behind in the game.
"So, try and make them bat as early as possible. Someone like Dhruv Jurel, I wouldn't mind even if he's batting at number three or four because he has that talent and he has that ability to change the game. So, he should be promoted up the order and someone like Hetmyer should be... He can do the job of what Nicholas Pooran does. I mean, he has similar talent. And if you're just saving him for the death overs, then it doesn't help the team."
