The Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain, Shreyas Iyer, was left absolutely fuming at the on-field umpire during the 27th match of the Indian Premier League 2025 on Saturday, April 12.
The match between the Sunrisers Hyderabad and the Punjab Kings was hosted by the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal, Hyderabad.

Shreyas Iyer furious at on-field umpire
Iyer has started his journey with his new team, Punjab Kings, on a good note. He has been praised a lot by his teammates as well as cricket experts for his leadership.
Shreyas Iyer is known for maintaining a calm demeanor on the field and rarely he is seen shouting or abusing his players on the field for their mistakes.
However, in the high-intensity match between the Sunrisers Hyderabad and the Punjab Kings, a different version of Iyer was seen as he looked quite charged up and was seen losing his cool a few times.
And one such incident happened in the 5th over. On the 2nd ball of the over, Glenn Maxwell bowled a wide and flatter delivery to Travis Head that passed down the leg, and the umpire called it a wide.
However, Glenn Maxwell and Prabhsimran were adamant that Travis Head got something on it and signaled for a DRS. The on-field umpire shockingly went upstairs instantly without consulting captain Shreyas Iyer, which made him angry.
"Arey bhai mere se pooch na, mere se pooch toh," the angry Shreyas Iyer told the umpire, before agreeing to go for a review.

The confidence Iyer carries is remarkable - Nehal Wadhera
Speaking ahead of the match, the star PBKS batsman Nehal Wadhera showered rich praise on Iyer for the confidence that he carries. He also lauded Iyer for the way he has connected with all the players in his new franchise
“This year, I’ve joined Punjab Kings, and I’m really looking forward to playing for my home team. Representing your home side is a special feeling for any player. When I was picked by Punjab Kings, it felt amazing—I was truly emotional. I'm eager to contribute and help Punjab Kings lift the trophy this season. In the last two IPL seasons, I’ve focused on improving my weak areas—working specifically on the shots and deliveries that troubled me. My aim is to find more success this year and hopefully make this a breakthrough season,“ Wadhera told JioHotstar.
"The way he (Shreyas Iyer) instantly connected with all the players—I really liked it. The confidence he (Shreyas Iyer) carries is remarkable. When a captain shows that kind of belief, it automatically lifts the morale of the team. If you look at their past together—Shreyas Iyer and Ricky Ponting during their time at DC—it was a successful combination.
"And Ricky Ponting, being the legend he is, brings so much to the table. When I work with him in the nets, everything he says feels so positive. Even the negatives don’t register—they don’t seem to reach our ears. Being around him feels like a blessing,” Wadhera concluded.
