Vaughan responded by saying that he wants England to get to Day 5 in the Ashes series against Australia, then he wanted England skipper Joe Root to smash a century in Australia in the remaining two Ashes games and his third new year’s resolution was to see England winning the ICC Men’s T20 World 2022 which is set to take place in Australia.

Just get to Day 5 in Test cricket, that’ll do, so that’s one, two would be for Joe Root to get a hundred in Australia, I think he deserves it, he’s been the lone ranger, hopefully, he’ll get to three figures in last two games, and I hope in few months time England will be winning the T20 World Cup in Australia,” Vaughan told Fox Cricket.

Joe Root-led England have already lost the 5-match Ashes series by losing the first three games. England lost the first match by 9 wickets at the Gabba, the second game by 275 runs at Adelaide Oval and the third game by an innings and 14 runs at Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Meanwhile, after England’s third consecutive loss former captain, Michael Vaughan, said England had not focused enough on Test cricket and their main focus has been on One Day Internationals and T20 Internationals.

“They’re a group of players [who] pride themselves on competing and they’ve just not managed to find any kind of consistency or skill,” Vaughan told Fox Cricket.

“It’s not been easy in these times: The England side haven’t had a great deal of preparation. But if you want to look for excuses, you can. You can always find excuses: this Test match team for quite a while has not been good enough. The focus has been on the white ball team and it delivered a World Cup, but we’re not a good enough cricketing nation to take our eye off the ball of Test match cricket,” he added.
