In a bizarre incident on Day 2 of the Adelaide Test between Australia and India, allrounder Mitchell Marsh decided to give himself out and walk off the field despite not being dismissed.

It was the offspinner Ravichandran Ashwin's first over of the second session. Ashwin bowled a flighted ball outside off stump as Marsh tried to defend with hard hands. The ball didn't turn as Marsh was beaten on the outside edge and the ball was caught by Rishabh Pant behind the stumps.

India went up to appeal and the umpire Richard Illingworth gave it out only after seeing Mitchell Marsh starting to walk off. However, it was later found out that the allrounder had hit the bat with his pad there was a big gap between bat and ball.

Nothing was found on Snicko as Marsh would have been easily not out had he taken the DRS. However, he immediately decided to walk off the field as soon as he was beaten. He was dismissed for just 9 off 26 balls.

Watch- Mitchell Marsh gives himself out despite not being dismissed

It was shocking to see Mitchell Marsh walk off despite not being given out. Ravichandran Ashwin could not believe his luck but it was a well deserved wicket for him.

DRS controversy involving Mitchell Marsh

Mitchell Marsh's wicket came after an unpopular incident in which he survived a close DRS call earlier. In an incident that happened a few balls earlier, Ashwin hit Marsh's pads while the batter was coming down the track.

Indian fielders appealed but the umpire gave it not out. Rohit Sharma decided to take the DRS after consulting with his team. The third umpire wasn't sure whether the ball had hit the pad or the bat first and eventually didn't find any conclusive evidence to overturn the original decision.

Later, it was found that the ball had hit the pad first. Although the impact was umpire's call, it would have saved India a crucial review. However, it wasn't to be and the umpire gave it not out.

Australia build on their lead

Meanwhile, it was an excellent day for Australia overall, who continued to build their lead. India bowled well in the first hour of the day but Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne put Australia back on track.

Labuschagne was dismissed for a well-made 64 but Head stood his ground to smash a whirlwind century. The left-hander, who has often been a nemesis for India on various occasions, proved to be a tough nut this time as well.

Head was dismissed for a counter-attacking 140 off 141 balls, which involved 17 fours and 4 sixes. India have a lot of work to do if they aim to make a comeback in this Test.
