Team India veteran pace bowler Mohammed Shami walked off the field after a short spell with the new ball in the semifinal match against Australia in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The right-arm bowler was seen being treated by physios after he left the field during Australia's innings in the high-octane clash.

Australian captain Steve Smith won the toss and opted to bat first at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday, March 4. Mohammed Shami dropped Travis Head off his own bowling on the first legal delivery of the match. However, Shami dismissed Cooper Connolly for a duck in his second over.

Major Concern for India as Mohammed Shami Walks Off Due to Injury

However, Mohammed Shami ended his first spell after bowling just three overs. The right-arm pacer conceded three consecutive boundaries to Travis Head in the fifth over. He ended his first three overs with 17 runs and one wicket.

After completing his over, Mohammed Shami left the field for medical attention, as confirmed by live visuals and commentators. His departure has raised concerns among Indian fans, especially since the team is already playing with just one specialist pacer.

Watch: Varun Chakravarthy Dismisses 'Dangerous' Travis Head in His First Over of the Match

Mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy managed to dismiss Travis Head, who was troubling India's bowlers with his aggressive batting. Head tried to take on the first delivery he faced from Varun in the match. The left-handed batter, who scored 33 off 22, mistimed the shot, and Shubman Gill completed the catch.

Head's wicket was crucial for India, given his history of match-winning performances against them. He scored 163 runs in Australia's first innings of the World Test Championship (WTC) final against India.

He smashed 137 off 120 balls in the 2023 ODI World Cup final in Ahmedabad. Australia won both major finals, with Head being named Player of the Match in both encounters.

Steven Smith, Marnus Labuschagne Looking to Rescue Australia with Partnership

At the time of writing, Australia were 76/2 after 15 overs, with Steven Smith (24 off 32) and Marnus Labuschagne (7 off 16) at the crease. Following Travis Head's dismissal, Rohit Sharma's team managed to control the scoring rate. India's four-spinner attack would pose challenges for Australia in the middle overs.

India have maintained an unbeaten run in the ongoing 2025 Champions Trophy, finishing as the table-toppers of Group A. They secured dominant victories over Bangladesh, Pakistan, and New Zealand to advance to the knockout stage with a perfect record.

Australia, on the other hand, are also yet to face a defeat in the tournament. However, they have managed just one victory—against England—while their other two group-stage matches were washed out due to rain.
