Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh has announced the Best Fielder award after the Men in Blue's recent match against the United States of America (USA) in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. Indian fast bowler Mohammed Siraj received the award from Yuvraj Singh for his outstanding performance on the field.

Team India fielding coach T. Dilip started the tradition of awarding outstanding fielding performances with the Best Fielder award after each match during the ODI World Cup 2023. Mohammed Siraj was selected for this award over wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav for his exceptional fielding skills.

The Rohit Sharma-led team recorded their third consecutive victory and advanced to the Super 8 stage in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. The Men in Blue defeated the United States of America (USA) by seven wickets at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Wednesday, June 12.

During the match, Mohammed Siraj made significant contributions by taking important catches. Siraj also ran out Jasdeep Singh on the final ball of the match. The pacer took a diving catch at deep mid-wicket to dismiss Nitish Kumar. He leapt backwards to complete the catch off Arshdeep Singh in the 15th over.

Best Fielder Of The Game, Mohammed Siraj - Yuvraj Singh

In a video uploaded by BCCI, Yuvraj Singh, the ICC's Global Ambassador for the 2024 T20 World Cup, visited the Indian dressing room to present the best fielder’s award. Yuvraj congratulated the Indian team for their achievement in progressing to the Super Eight stage with three consecutive wins in the tournament.

“Arshdeep congratulations for the Player of the Match and your batting skills last game also. SKY well played, very unlike Suryakumar but according to the situation. Shivam well done, very good to see you getting runs and finishing the match for India. Well done, all the best guys. I’m pretty sure you, no pressure, enjoy. Of course, Best fielder of the game, Siraj game changer, great catch,” said Yuvraj.

“It’s amazing feeling last World Cup I was the contender across 11 matches but couldn’t win the medal but hard work never goes to waste and always pays off,” said Siraj after receiving the medal.

Siraj received the fielding medal after India's first match against Ireland, while Rishabh Pant was awarded the medal after the second match against Pakistan.

Arshdeep Singh Bags Player of the Match Award

Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to field. The USA managed to score 110/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Nitish Kumar scored 27 runs off 23 balls, and Steven Taylor contributed 24 runs off 30 balls. Arshdeep Singh took two wickets for nine runs, while Hardik Pandya claimed two wickets for 14 runs.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were dismissed for single-digit scores by Saurabh Netravalkar. India was in trouble at 39/3 in 7.3 overs after Rishabh Pant's (18 off 20) dismissal. However, Suryakumar Yadav (50 off 49) and Shivam Dube (31 off 35) remained unbeaten and led the team to victory with a crucial 72-run stand.
