The Indian cricket team looks in complete control as they are well on the path to bowling out Australia as soon as possible on Day 5 of the ongoing third Test at The Gabba in Brisbane. Indian bowlers are making the most of the strong start provided by Jasprit Bumrah in Brisbane.
Well, it was now the time for Mohammed Siraj to shine yet again after removing Steve Smith for just four runs off five balls, as the Indian pacer has now another big fish in Travis Head on Day 5 of the ongoing third Test match at the Gabba Test.
Mohammed Siraj strikes again as Travis Head falls to a mistimed shot at The Gabba
However, Travis Head fell to a mistimed shot, gifting India a crucial wicket in the ongoing Gabba Test. Mohammed Siraj bowled a short ball angled across the Australian left-hander, and he attempted a big swipe over mid-wicket.
Playing against the angle, Travis Head got a thick top edge that went high towards the gully. Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant called for the catch, ran across, and grabbed it safely, as the Australian batter departed for 17 off 19 balls, including two boundaries at The Gabba.

It was a big wicket for both India and Mohammed Siraj, as Travis Head was the man behind Australia’s comeback victory in the Adelaide Test, and he had already smoked a ton in Brisbane as well, so it was the need of the time to keep the left-hander silent when the tourists were looking to restrict the hosts to at least under 300.
India chases 275-run target to win the Gabba Test
Head has so far smashed two centuries and a difference in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. However, after Pat Cummins’ wicket, the Australian cricket team decided to declare their innings at 89/7, leading by 274 runs against India in the ongoing third Test at The Gabba.
Well, the Indian bowlers have done their job; now it's the Indian batters turn to save the match and take a lead in the ongoing five-match Test series against Australia, as they have a 275-run target to chase with rain on the radar in Brisbane.
Meanwhile, Pat Cummins is set to miss the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka earlier next year to be with his wife, Becky, as she is due to give birth to their second child. Cummins, who had to miss key moments during his first child Albie's early days due to national commitments, has made the decision to prioritize family time this time around.
Travis Head set to lead Australia on Sri Lanka tour
With Cummins' absence, former Australia captain and current vice-captain Steve Smith is likely to step in as stand-in captain. Smith, known for his experience and leadership skills, has already been taking on many of the leadership responsibilities in Cummins’ absence.
However, as Smith approaches the end of his career at 35, questions are raised about his long-term role in the team. With a leadership transition on the horizon, there is growing discussion about giving Travis Head a chance to lead, ensuring a smooth future for the Australian cricket team.
It is being said that Head is the frontrunner to lead Australia in the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka, given his consistent performance and the respect he gets in the dressing room.
