Chennai Super Kings (CSK) wicketkeeper-batter, MS Dhoni, has been in the headlines for his gesture towards the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) players after his team failed to qualify for the IPL 2024 Playoffs on Saturday, May 18.

After RCB crushed CSK by 27 runs in the crucial IPL 2024 encounter at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, a video has been going crazily viral on various social media platforms. In the video, Dhoni can be seen in the queue with the CSK players to congratulate the RCB team for their win.

However, after waiting for a few minutes, the legendary Indian cricketer decided to return to the CSK dressing room, and on his way back, Dhoni shook hands with the RCB supporting staff and some of the benched players present at that time before leaving for the CSK dressing room.

MS Dhoni avoids handshake with RCB players after IPL 2024 heartbreak

Well, many have been criticizing Dhoni for not waiting for the RCB players, who were celebrating their memorable win at the ground, to congratulate them and for the handshake tradition. In the viral video, it can be clearly seen that Dhoni skipped shaking hands with RCB players and returned to the dressing room after meeting some of the host team’s players.

However, it's unclear if Dhoni eventually shook hands with the RCB team, but another viral video suggested that Virat Kohli was heading towards the dressing room, likely to shake hands with his former India captain after missing the opportunity on the field.

But former England captain Michael Vaughan and commentator Harsha Bhogle slammed the RCB players for disrespecting Dhoni, as they felt the players should have met the legendary cricketer before doing their stuff as he was waiting for him despite his heartbreak in Bengaluru.

The duo felt the RCB players would only regret their disrespectful behavior towards Dhoni if they got to know later that it was his last match in the IPL. However, there is no official confirmation about Dhoni’s retirement, but the former Indian pacer, RP Singh, dropped a major hint about the same.

Is MS Dhoni retired from the IPL?

The commentator shared a picture along with Dhoni and Suresh Raina on his X handle and said “it is not necessary that every story has a good ending; history always remembers those who stood firm till the end." This post hinted that it was Dhoni’s last game in the IPL.

Speaking about the RCB vs CSK clash at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, the Bengaluru team posted a formidable total of 218/5, thanks to solid contributions from Faf du Plessis (54), Virat Kohli (47), and Rajat Patidar (41) against CSK. In response, CSK fought valiantly, with Dhoni showcasing his vintage hitting with a quickfire 25 runs.

However, RCB pacer Yash Dayal's nerve-wracking final over restricted CSK to 191/7, securing a 27-run win over the defending champions to qualify for the IPL 2024 playoffs. Despite Dhoni's and Jadeja’s efforts, CSK fell a few runs short and ended their IPL 2024 campaign on a disappointing note.
