Chennai Super Kings needed something special to get rid of Phil Salt after the Royal Challengers Bengaluru star made a flying start with the bat in the ongoing game at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
The right-handed batsman got into his groove by hitting Khaleel Ahmed for two fours in the very first over. In the second over, he went after Ravichandran Ashwin and hit the veteran spinner for a six and two fours. On a pitch where batsmen usually struggle, Phil Salt's innings threatened to take the game away from CSK.
The home side needed a special moment to dismiss Salt and the moment of magic was provided by none other than their former captain MS Dhoni. For the second game in a row, the legendary wicketkeeper showed that he still has a lot to offer behind the stumps as he pulled off a lightning stumping.
Salt was facing Noor Ahmad in the fifth over when he was stumped by MS Dhoni. On the final ball of the over, the left-arm spinner bowled a googly that spun away. Salt wanted to play an inside-out shot but could not make any connection with the ball.
In an attempt to play the shot, Salt also momentarily lost his balance and his backfoot was lifted for a fraction of a second. However, it was enough for MS Dhoni to collect the ball and take the bails off in a flash. Virat Kohli's reaction after the stumping said it all as the RCB star looked shellshocked.
The decision was referred to the third umpire and the replays showed that MS Dhoni had indeed caught Salt short. The right-handed batsman departed after scoring 32 runs off 16 balls. His knock was studded with five fours and a six.

Last week, Dhoni had pulled off a similar kind of stumping to send back Suryakumar Yadav when CSK faced Mumbai Indians.
Talking about the ongoing game, RCB were on 73/1 in the eighth over at the time of writing this report. Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal were batting in the middle for the visitors.
