South Africa managed to keep their unbeaten record as they edged past West Indies in the last Super 8 game in Antigua on Monday. This was their seventh win of the World Cup campaign which took them to the semi-finals of the tournament.

South Africa and England got through to the semi-finals with USA and West Indies eliminated. The Windies lost to England and South in back to back games to get themselves eliminated. USA is the other team to get eliminated from that group.

West Indies batting first scored 135/8 in their 20 overs. The innings did not get any momentum as the Windies lost wickets at regular intervals. Tabraiz Shamsi the leggie took three wickets to rattle the Windies batting lineup.

On the DLS method, South Africa had to chase 123 in 17 overs. The chase became tricky with them losing wickets at regular intervals as well. Quinton de Kock fell early for 12. Skipper Aiden Markram scored 18. Tristan Stubbs (29) and Heinrich Klaasen (22) scored crucial runs as well.

Klaasen's dismissal in the 8th over gave the Windies a ray of hope. His dismissal was well planned by Windies pacer Alzarri Joseph. He bowled a well-directed bouncer him which Klaasen failed to control the bounce, The ball took the gloves and ballooned up in the air. Pooran behind the stumps watched the ball closely and took a tumbling catch at the end of the circle.

Marco Jansen then kept a cool head as he scored 21 off 14 balls to take South Africa to victory. Kagiso Rabada was unbeaten on five off three at the other end. This is the first time South Africa qualified for the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup since 2014. They are yet to win the tournament.

Interestingly, South Africa's seven wins in this World Cup edition is the most in a single edition of a T20 World Cup. This is also the third time that South Africa have won seven T20Is matches on the trot. They previously won seven games each in 2009 and 2021 before 2024. South Africa who previously were known to choke down in key games have somehow found ways to win in this edition of the T20 World Cup.

"Lot of relief to get through to the semifinal. We would have liked to be a lot more convincing. The wicket was playing nicely after the rain break but we tried to kill the game too early. It put us in a tricky position but happy to get over the line. We bowled really well, assessed conditions and kept them to a sub-par total" said South African skipper Aiden Markram after their win over the Windies.

South Africa and England having qualified for the semi-final await the teams from Group 2. India, Australia and Afghanistan are all in with a chance of making the semi-finals. A loss for Australia to India will clear the passage for India and Afghanistan to qualify for the semi-finals. Afghanistan's win against Australia have brought them back in the race to the semi-finals.
