Watch - NZ All-Rounder Michael Bracewell Picks Up A Hat-Trick In His Very First Over In T20Is

New Zealand’s bowling all-rounder Michael Bracewell became only the third cricketer from his country to take a hat-trick in the shortest format of the game.
Bracewell took the wickets of Ireland’s players, Mark Adair, Barry McCarthy, and Craig Young on the trot to join the likes of Jacob Oram (vs Sri Lanka, 2009) and Tim Southee (vs Pakistan, 2010) as the only players to take three wickets in succession for the Kiwis in T20Is.
The 31-year-old was brought in to bowl the 14th over of Ireland’s innings. They were in a precarious position at 86/7, needing 94 runs in the last seven overs.

Bracewell conceded a boundary off the very first ball before having Adair and McCarthy caught at deep mid-wicket by Glenn Phillips. He registered the hat-trick when Young sliced a delivery straight to Ish Sodhi at short third man.

Earlier, the Kiwis rode on the back of Dane Cleaver’s maiden T20I fifty to pile up 179 on the board. Finn Allen contributed with a 20-ball 35 while Phillips played well for his 16-ball 23.
Cleaver scored 5 fours and 4 sixes in his 55-ball 78, ensuring that the Kiwis end up with a par total. In the run chase, Sodhi and Bracewell took 3 wickets each while Jacob Duffy contributed with a couple of his own.

Speaking about the win, skipper Mitchell Santner praised Bracewell, saying the 31-year-old continues to impress in all formats of the game.
“It was a clinical victory. The way Dane played to get us to that score was outstanding. There is not a lot that Bracewell cannot do at the moment in all formats. The next game would be on a new wicket, so it might play similar to the first game,” Santner said.
