Indian pace bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah experienced an awkward moment after his team secured a berth in the final match of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Jasprit Bumrah was ignored for a handshake by an umpire, and the video has gone viral across social media platforms on the internet.

The Rohit Sharma-led team won the second semifinal match against England by 68 runs at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Thursday, June 27. Team India outplayed England in all departments in a one-sided match. The Indian bowlers dismissed the opposition for just 103 runs while defending a target of 172 runs.

Jasprit Bumrah picked up two wickets for 12 runs in his 2.4 overs during the match. Left-arm spinners Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav took three wickets each while defending the target on a tricky surface. Axar Patel earned the "Player of the Match" award for taking crucial wickets, including England skipper Jos Buttler.

Jasprit Bumrah sealed the match by dismissing Jofra Archer with an in-swinging yorker. Indian players began celebrating, despite England's batter opting for a DRS review. Bumrah tried to shake hands with the umpire and teammates, but the umpire accidentally ignored him twice during the celebrations.

In a viral video, Bumrah was left hanging as the umpire shook hands with other players. It's unclear whether the Indian star bowler eventually got his handshake, as the cameras moved away once the third umpire confirmed the decision on the big screen.

India also extended their winning streak in T20Is to 11 matches (December 2023-June 2024), their second-best streak in the shorter format.

Expectations Are High - Jasprit Bumrah

Speaking before the start of their semi-final, Jasprit Bumrah acknowledged the high expectations but stressed the importance of concentrating on their game and not getting distracted by outside influences. Bumrah mentioned Arshdeep Singh's impactful contributions as a positive sign for the team.

"Expectations are high but we’re trying to focus on our game and keep the outside noise out. We want to control the controllables. Now we’re waiting for the game to happen. You need to assess the conditions, there are so many variables involved," Bumrah said.

"We understand how the game goes and how the opposition plans but we’re trying to focus on our strengths. Arshdeep has set the tone for us, he’s been swinging the ball. As a youngster he’s very clear with his options, that’s a great sign for me,” he added.

India has maintained an unbeaten record in the T20 World Cup, demonstrating their dominance throughout the tournament. The Rohit Sharma-led team is scheduled to play against South Africa in the final at Kensington Oval in Barbados on Saturday, June 29.
