Star Australian fast bowler Pat Cummins etched his name in the history books during the match against Bangladesh in the Super 8 stage of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Pat Cummins became the second Australian bowler and seventh overall to bag a hat-trick in the history of the T20 World Cup.
Australian skipper Mitchell Marsh opted to bowl first after winning the toss at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium on Friday, June 21 (India time). Australia restricted the Bangladesh team to 140 runs in 20 overs. Najmul Hossain Shanto scored 41 runs, while Towhid Hridoy played a cameo of 40 runs off 28 balls.

Pat Cummins and Adam Zampa were the standout bowlers for Australia. Cummins picked up three wickets for 29 runs in his four overs. Zampa bagged two wickets of 25 runs, while Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, and Glenn Maxwell each claimed a wicket. Josh Hazlewood went wicketless in his four-over quota.
Pat Cummins secured his hat-trick by dismissing Towhid Hridoy on the first ball of the 20th over. Cummins picked up the wickets of Mahmudullah and Mehedi Hasan on the last two deliveries in his previous over. He became the first bowler to pick up a hat-trick in the ongoing event in the West Indies and the USA.

Mitchell Starc Breaks Lasith Malinga's Long-Standing Record
Mitchell Starc achieved a significant milestone by surpassing Lasith Malinga's record for the most wickets in Men's World Cups across ODIs and T20Is. Starc bowled out Tanzid Hasan in the third ball of the innings after Australia decided to bowl first. The left-arm pacer bagged his 95th wicket in ICC World Cups.
Australia's bowlers dominated Bangladesh after Mitchell Starc's early breakthrough. Josh Hazlewood began his spell impressively by bowling a maiden over. The Bangladesh batters managed to score only 27 runs after five overs. Pat Cummins conceded 12 runs in the final over of the power play in Bangladesh's innings.
Adam Zampa dismissed Litton Das in the ninth over, leaving Bangladesh at 58-2. Glenn Maxwell then picked up the wicket of Rishad Hossain, who scored 2 runs, in the 10th over.
