Australia National Cricket Team captain Pat Cummins pulled off a spectacular catch in the second semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 to remove the in-form South Africa National Cricket Team opening batsman Quinton de Kock.

The high-voltage match between the world-class teams is currently underway at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday, November 16. The winner of the ongoing will book a date with the India National Cricket Team in the final of the marquee tournament.

South Africa won the toss and chose to bat first in the match. The decision proved to be a horrible one for the side as both the Proteas openers – Temba Bavuma and Quinton de Kock – were cleaned up for low scores.

Temba Bavuma was dismissed for a duck in the first over itself while De Kock was removed by Josh Hazlewood in the 6th over. On the 4th ball of the 6th over, De Kock tried to launch a length delivery straight down the ground, but he didn’t get a good connection.

The ball went high up in the air and Pat Cummins backpedaled from the mid-on and completed a fantastic catch to leave the Proteas tottering at 8/2. Also, the in-form opener Quinton de Kock was back in the hut after contributing just 3 runs off 14 balls.

This was the 8th time, Josh Hazlewood dismissed De Kock in the ODI cricket. He is also the bowler to dismiss the Proteas opener for the most times in the history of 50-over cricket.

Most times dismissing Quinton de Kock in ODIs:

8 – Josh Hazlewood

5 – Trent Boult

4 – Lasith Malinga

4 – Mitchell Starc

4 – Glenn Maxwell

Speaking at the toss, Australia National Cricket Team captain Pat Cummins said that they also wanted to bat first, but was hopeful of getting swing early on in the innings. Pat Cummins said:

“We would have batted first as well. But it is overcast and hopefully, there’s some swing early on. They play pretty similar style, unfortunately they have won a last few, we are due.

“We have been in these positions before. We have a lot of experience. We were not up to our best in those couple of games. But guys have been positive in the last seven games. Two changes for us. Stoinis and Abbott are out. Maxwell and Starc are in.”
