Riyan Parag, on Wednesday (August 7), made his debut in ODIs as he got a chance in the India playing eleven for the ongoing third game against Sri Lanka at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

The Assam star played in all three T20Is against Sri Lanka but failed to find a spot in the team for the first two games of the ongoing three-match ODI series. With the series online, India made two changes to their playing eleven. KL Rahul and Arshdeep Singh were dropped from the team and Riyan Parag and Rishabh Pant were included.

While Sri Lanka opted to bat first, Parag did not take long to make an impact in the game. He picked up his first ODI wicket in his third over by dismissing Sri Lanka opener Avishka Fernando. On the third ball of the 36th over, Riyan Parag trapped a well-set Fernando in front of the stumps.

The Indian youngster tried to bowl leg-spin but the ball did not turn and held its line. On the other hand, the Sri Lanka batter played for the turn and was completely beaten as the ball went on to hit him on the pad. As soon as the umpire raised his finger to adjudge Fernando out, Riyan Parag celebrated the wicket in an animated fashion.

Watch Riyan Parag's celebration:

Fernando departed after playing a fine knock of 96 runs. His knock came off 102 balls and was studded with 9 fours and 2 sixes. At the time of writing this report, Sri Lanka were on 192/4 in the 41st over with Kusal Mendis and Janith Liyanage batting in the middle.

Sri Lanka were off to a good start with Fernando and Pathum Nissanka adding 89 runs for the first wicket. Axar Patel broke the stand in the 20th over by dismissing Nissanka for 45. It was followed by another brilliant partnership between Fernando and Mendis as the duo added 82 runs for the second wicket before Riyan Parag broke the stand.

Sri Lanka are currently leading the series 1-0 and will be looking to win the ongoing game to register their first ODI series win over India since 1997.
