Indian batsman Rajat Patidar lost his concentration on the first ball of the 72nd over and lost his wicket against England bowler Rehan Ahmed. Patidar, who is playing his debut Test match, scored 32 runs off 72 balls and hit a total of 3 fours during his stay at the crease. The ball had an extra bounce and Patidar was trying to defend it.

The ball hit him on the glove and ended up hitting the stumps. The batter tried to stop the ball but wasn’t successful. It was a much-needed wicket for England, as Patidar before getting out had already added 70 runs from 124 balls along with Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Watch: Rajat Patidar gets out in an unlucky fashion

Rajat Patidar scored a lot of runs in domestic cricket ahead of his India call-up and also slammed a century against England Lions during the first unofficial Test match played earlier this month.

Batting first in Visakhapatnam, the Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma added 40 runs for the first wicket. Rohit was once again not able to convert his start into a big score and was dismissed after scoring 14 runs from 41 balls. Rohit was the maiden Test wicket of debutant Shoaib Bashir. After the departure of Rohit, Shubman Gill played some decent shots and hit five fours during his 46 ball time at the crease.

Shubman Gill walked back for 34 runs and fell to James Anderson. The Indian team finished at 103/2 at Lunch on Day 1 in 31 overs. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer put up a stand of 90 runs from 131 balls for the 3rd wicket. The main highlight from the Indian team was Yashasvi Jaiswal, who reached his 100 by smashing the ball into the stands against Ollie Pope. Jaiswal missed his ton in the first game and got out after scoring 80 runs in the first innings.

Soon after Yashasvi Jaiswal reached his hundred, there was a lapse in concentration of Shreyas Iyer and he walked back after scoring 27 runs from 59 balls. India finished at 225/3 at Tea on Day 3 with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rajat Patidar at the crease. While Jaiswal continued his attack from one end, he will look to make a big score, after the departure of Patidar, the hosts are still in the driving seat on Day 1 of the second Test match.

The Indian batsmen have hardly played any lose shots and the pitch as well has been decent for the batsmen. However, there were speculations that the pitch may have a lot more turn than the Hyderabad Test. The spinners got more help from the surface in Hyderabad from Day 3, and the same might be the case in Vizag as well.

Earlier the Indian team brought in Rajat Patidar, Kuldeep Yadav and Mukesh Kumar in place of KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj. The Indian team is playing with three specialist spinners and two fast bowlers. England on the other hand, brought in experienced James Anderson and Shoaib Bashir in place of Mark Wood and Jack Leach. Leach was ruled out of the match due to a knee injury.
