Shoaib Bashir gets injured in the 78th over

The 21-year-old off-spinner Shoaib Bashir has been the premier spinner for the England National Cricket Team, but his performances of late have not been great. Bashir has not looked threatening with the ball, and to make matters worse for him, he sustained an injury during the Lord's Test match.

The incident happened in the 78th over of the innings when Shoaib Bashir arrived in the middle to bowl to the India National Cricket Team all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Nitish Kumar Reddy.

On the fifth ball of the 78th over, Shoaib Bashir bowled a length ball to Ravindra Jadeja, who walked down the track and smashed it hard back to the bowler.

Bashir showed some courage and went for the low catch to his left, but he dropped it, and the ball hit his boots and rolled towards mid-on.

The young spinner was winching in pain after getting hit on his hands and immediately left the field to get some treatment. Joe Root was called in to bowl the last ball of the over, and the English team would be hoping that Shoaib Bashir hadn't dislocated his finger.

It is not right - but you cannot play Test cricket on pitches like this: Ravi Shastri

Speaking on Sky Sports, the former India National Cricket Team head coach Ravi Shastri said that the pitches and the Dukes balls have been a huge problem in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy and need to be bettered. He said:

"It is not right - but you cannot play Test cricket on pitches like this, you are going to take the crowds away. You need some pace in the surface. But you also need a good ball. If you have a good ball and a pitch that has something in it then that makes for interesting cricket. These delays are not good enough."

Ravi Shastri further showered rich praise on England captain Ben Stokes for producing a brilliant direct hit to send back the superstar wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant. He said:

"It was phenomenal from Stokes. He understood Pant could be the man in danger in the spur of the moment, and he spun around and hit the stumps. That was fantastic cricket. Great presence of mind."

Ravi Shastri added that the wicket of Rishabh Pant at the stroke of lunch acted as encouragement for England. He stated:

"There is an opening now for England to come back and regroup. If India had not lost a wicket in that session you go in and shoulders are down. There is some encouragement now to come back out refreshed and see if they can make further inroads. Rahul's job is to keep batting on."
