The 33-year-old India National Cricket Team mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy made an awful fielding blunder during the last group stage match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 on Sunday, March 2.

The blunder made by Varun Chakravarthy against the New Zealand National Cricket Team didn't sit well with the skipper Rohit Sharma and all-rounder Hardik Pandya as they looked quite furious at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Varun Chakravarthy's sloppy fielding leaves teammates angry

Chasing the target of 250 runs on a slow Dubai surface against India, New Zealand were off to a cautious start. The opening duo of Will Young and Rachin Ravindra tried to extend their stay in the middle and tackled the Indian bowlers quite well.

Meanwhile, the Kiwis were gifted free runs by the Indian team in the 4th over of the innings. On the second ball of the over, the pace-bowling all-rounder Hardik Pandya bowled a short ball to Rachin Ravindra and he edged it to backward point for a single.

Then, it was signaled by the umpire that Hardik Pandya had overstepped. Will Young got the opportunity to face the free-hit delivery next, and he launched a pace-off-length delivery from Pandya towards the mid-on.

Young didn't make a good connection with the ball, and it went in the air. Varun Chakravarthy went for a catch, got his fingertips, and after dropping it, he made an even bigger blunder as he accidentally kicked the ball toward boundary ropes, resulting in a four.

Hardik Pandya hid his face in disappointment upon seeing the fielding blunder from Varun Chakravarthy, while Rohit Sharma looked furious. Also, the veteran batter Virat Kohli was shocked to see things pan out the way they did.

How did India perform in their previous ICC Champions Trophy 2025 match?

India delivered a great performance against Pakistan in their previous ICC Champions Trophy 2025 match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, securing a dominant 6-wicket victory with 45 balls to spare. The match saw India chase down a target of 242, thanks to a batting masterclass from Virat Kohli.

After electing to bat first, Pakistan managed to post a modest total of 241 in 49.4 overs. Saud Shakeel (62) and Mohammad Rizwan (46) played well, but the Indian bowling attack ensured that Pakistan never truly accelerated.

Kuldeep Yadav was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/40, while Hardik Pandya chipped in with two crucial wickets. Harshit Rana, Axar Patel, and Ravindra Jadeja were also among the wickets.

Chasing the target, India got off to a flying start thanks to skipper Rohit Sharma (20). After he got out, Shubman Gill (46) carried the momentum and ensured India were in the game.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli was the top performer for India as he played a composed knock of 100* runs off 111 balls during the run-chase. He was well supported by Shreyas Iyer, who contributed a crucial 56 runs and India easily won the match.
