Rohit Sharma and other Mumbai-based players in India's T20 World Cup winning team were felicitated by Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde on Friday (July 5).

India clinched the T20 World Cup last week with a thrilling win over South Africa in the final in Barbados. In a game where fortune swung from one side to another throughout, India managed to hold their nerves and clinched a thrilling win to end their long wait for the World Cup trophy. India's last World Cup win had come way back in 2011 when MS Dhoni led the team to ODI World Cup glory on home soil.

The Indian team was scheduled to land in the country on Tuesday but their departure from Barbados was delayed by a couple of days due to a hurricane. They eventually left the island on Wednesday (July 3) and reached India on Thursday morning. The team landed at the IGI Airport in New Delhi and met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence before leaving for Mumbai.

In Mumbai, the Men in Blue took part in a victory parade from Marine Drive to the Wankhede Stadium as thousands of fans gave them a rousing reception. The BCCI also felicitated the players in the stadium and handed them the cheque of Rs 125 crore.

And on Friday, the Maharashtra chief minister felicitated Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shivam Dube at his official residence in South Mumbai. Later, the four players also visited the Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan complex where they were felicitated again. During the event, captain Rohit Sharma delivered a speech as well and the ministers in splits with a hilarious comment.

The India batting stalwart made the comment while talking about Suryakumar Yadav's crucial catch in the final against South Africa. On the first ball of the final over when South Africa needed 16 runs, Suryakumar came up with a stunning juggling catch at long-off to send off the dangerous David Miller.

Recalling the catch, Rohit Sharma hilariously said: "After Surya caught the ball, he told me that the ball sat in his hand. Thank goodness, it sat in his hand. Otherwise, I would have sat him out."

All the ministers as well as Rohit himself burst into laughter after the hilarious comment.
