Team India skipper Rohit Sharma ignored Virat Kohli for the Decision Review System (DRS) call during New Zealand's first innings of the second Test match. Notably, the Rohit Sharma-led team lost the review against New Zealand's in-form opener Devon Conway off Ravindra Jadeja's bowling on Day 1.

Black Caps skipper Tom Latham opted to bat first after winning the toss at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Thursday, October 24. Latham and Devon Conway negotiated the opening spell against Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep without losing a wicket to the fast bowlers.

Ravichandran Ashwin Picks Up 2 Wickets in First Session on Day 1

Ravichandran Ashwin broke the opening stand by dismissing Tom Latham in his first over of the opening day of the second Test match. Ashwin trapped the left-handed batter in front of the stumps. Latham, who struggled with the bat in the first Test match, scored 15 runs off 22 balls with two fours.

The 38-year-old spinner provided a breakthrough by dismissing Will Young, who scored 18 runs off 45 balls. Rishabh Pant took a sharp catch down the leg side. Sarfaraz Khan forced Rohit Sharma to take a DRS after on-field umpiring ruling not out. The decision was overturned after successful review.

The incident took place on the first ball of the 25th over in New Zealand's first innings. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma opted to use the DRS after ignoring Virat Kohli. Ravindra Jadeja bowled a flat-length delivery that sharply turned in, but the ball-tracking showed it was clearly missing the leg stump.

There Is No Panic As Such In The Dressing Room - Ravindra Jadeja

Speaking before the start, Ravindra Jadeja said that it does feel awkward for the Indian team to be trailing in a series, adding that they haven't lost a home series in 12 years. He stated that they won the five-match Test series against England by 4-1 despite losing the first Test match earlier this year at home.

"No, actually. In India, it does feel awkward that we are trailing in a series. We haven't lost a series at home in 12 years. In the last series against England, we lost a Test and it kind of gives us a wake-up call. We focus more in areas where we have to work hard," Jadeja said.

"There is no panic as such in the dressing room. We just want to focus on getting the team to a better position. I feel good that team is giving you the responsibility that you are a senior player and team wants you to perform. I try but in one or two games, I may not perform. I give my 100 percent and I try to repay the faith the team shows in me."
