Rohit Sharma in T20 World Cup 2024

Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from T20I cricket after leading India to the T20 World Cup 2024 title win in Barbados in the month of June. The Indian captain played a stellar role in the title win as he finished as the second-highest run-getter of the tournament.

Rohit scored 257 runs in 8 matches at an average of 36.71 and a strike rate of 156.70. He provided India flying starts throughout the tournament and helped to set the tone for the rest of the batting line-up to follow.

The 37-year-old was proactive with his captaincy as his decisions were almost perfect. India went on to win an ICC trophy after a long gap of 11 years. This was also Rohit's second T20 World Cup title after the one in the inaugural edition in 2007.

However, after the title win, Rohit decided to retire along with his fellow India teammate Virat Kohli. A day later, allrounder Ravindra Jadeja also hung up his boots in T20Is.

India's replacements for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli

While Rohit has retired from the format, India have plenty of options ready to replace him. With both Kohli and Rohit not available in T20 format, Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal are seen as the next set of openers for India in the format.

Coming to the captaincy part, Sharma has been replaced by Suryakumar Yadav as India's next T20I captain. Suryakumar is a key part of India's T20I plans and has already established himself as one of the finest T20 batters in the world.

Meanwhile, Rohit recently led India to a 2-0 Test series win over Bangladesh. His next assignment will be India's home Test series against New Zealand which consists of three Tests. India will also travel to Australia later this year for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy which will be a big test of Rohit's captaincy.
