Jasprit Bumrah has yet again delivered for India when they badly needed a breakthrough in the ongoing third Test match against Australia at The Gabba, Brisbane. It was a big wicket for the Indian cricket team, as Bumrah broke the dangerous partnership between Steve Smith and Travis Head at the Gabba.

Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Smith with a sharp catch by the Indian captain Rohit Sharma at first slip. However, the Indian camp remained quiet in celebration as the Australian batting icon and Travis Head already made a lot of damage in the ongoing third Test at The Gabba, Brisbane.

Bumrah bowled a full delivery, just outside off, tempting Steve Smith to drive. However, the Australian batter’s hard-handed attempt resulted in a thick edge flying to Rohit’s right. The Indian captain dived brilliantly to grab it, breaking his 241-run partnership with Head.

Rohit Sharma had earlier dropped Travis Head, and he went on to smoke 152 runs off 160 balls to shift the match in Australia’s favor at The Gabba. But the Indian skipper didn’t repeat his mistake, diving across and grabbing a stunning catch to remove Smith.

Well, Smith walked off to loud applause from the Gabba crowd after a well-crafted 101 off 190 balls, including 12 boundaries, as he left the field after putting Australia in a dominant position against India in the ongoing third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Brisbane.

Watch how Jasprit Bumrah gets the better of Steve Smith here:

It was Smith's first century in 25 innings, his longest gap without reaching triple digits in Test cricket. His previous longest gap was 22 innings that he took to his maiden Test century since debut. He showed great grit and determination to reach his 50, benefiting from some luck along the way.

As his innings progressed, the Australian batter found his rhythm and capitalized on the tired Indian bowlers to show his class before being dismissed by Bumrah in the ongoing Brisbane Test. Meanwhile, with his 33rd Test century on Sunday, Steve Smith surpassed Steve Waugh in Australia's list of most Test hundreds.

Steve Smith script history with his Gabba Test against India

Smith now becomes the second Australian with the most centuries in Test cricket after Ricky Ponting, who leads the chart with 41 centuries from 168 matches since his debut in 1995. Steve Waugh, who also played 168 Test matches for Australia, is now sitting at the third spot with 32 centuries.

Matthew Hayden is in fourth place with 30 centuries in 103 Test matches to his name. Sir Donald Bradman sits fifth on the list of most Test centuries scored by Australian batters, with 29 hundreds to his name. Remarkably, Bradman achieved this feat in just 52 Test matches.

Speaking about the Gabba Test match, India managed to fight back with three crucial wickets in the third session, but Australia remains in a strong position. The big question now is whether Australia will declare soon to test India’s openers before day two of the Brisbane Test.
