India veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli shared a warm hug after India's emphatic victory over Bangladesh in the first Test match at Chennai. Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were satisfied with the performance and happy with the way India started the home Test season.

On the fourth day of the Test match, Bangladesh needed 357 more runs to win with 6 wickets in hand. They started the day well with the captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and Shakib Al Hasan providing solidity and frustrating the Indian bowlers.

However, it was a matter of just one wicket as Shakib fell to Ravichandran Ashwin for 25. It was just the opening that India needed as they kept picking up wickets after that point. Some poor shots from Bangladesh's lower-order batters also helped as the visitors were bowled out for just 234 in their second innings.

While Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli seemed happy after India's win, they did not have a great match individually. Rohit scored 6 and 5 across both the innings and was dismissed by Bangladesh's new ball bowlers early.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli scored 6 and 17 across the two innings. Virat Kohli was looking good in the second innings but could not get a big score. Both the senior batters will be under immense pressure to perform in Kanpur.

Plenty of positives for India

Meanwhile, India had plenty of positives from this match. Yashasvi Jaiswal impressed with his fifty under pressure on a spicy pitch under testing conditions. Rishabh Pant too impressed on his Test return and scored a valuable 39 off 52 balls.

The spin duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja then showed their batting talent to take India to an above-par total in the first innings. It was time for the Indian bowlers to deliver and they did exactly that by dismissing Bangladesh for just 149 runs in the first innings. Jasprit Bumrah played his first match after the T20 World Cup 2024 in June and looked in good rhythm.

In the second innings, the form of two young batters Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant was the biggest plus point. Both batters scored magnificent hundreds and destroyed Bangladesh's bowling attack. Gill's century was a huge relief for the youngster as he was under immense pressure after his duck in the first innings.

Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant announced his Test return with a typically aggressive style of hundred. Pant scored 108 off 128 balls. Meanwhile, it was all about India's spinners in the fourth innings of the match as Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja picked up 9 wickets between them. Ashwin picked a six-wicket haul while Jadeja grabbed 3 wickets.
