Devdutt Padikkal got the nod ahead of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sai Sudharsan in the Indian team for BGT 2024-25
With injuries in the Indian camp, the names of Gaikwad, Sai Sudharsan, and Devdutt Padikkal hogged the headlines and there were reports that either of them could stay with the main team. The trio looked good in match simulation and impressed the Indian team management.
However, it was Devdutt Padikkal who got the nod ahead of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sai Sudharsan. The reports claimed that the Karnataka batter was preferred because of his experience and with the way he played in Australia, and there are chances he might bat at No.3 in the first game.
The reports of Gaikwad and Sai Sudharsan not being asked to stay back in Australia were confirmed after the duo were spotted in the team bus. They boarded the bus, which took the India A team to the airport as they were all set to fly back home after the tour games.

Ruturaj Gaikwad fails, Sai Sudharsan and Devdutt Padikkal make decent contributions on their A tour to Australia
Gaikwad, who captained India A in the tour games, didn't have a great outing in the two games. He got out on low scores in all four innings. However, in the match simulation, he looked good as he hit 4 sixes in a row.
Sai Sudharsan, on the other hand, hit a glorious ton in the game against India A. He recently also hit a double hundred in the Ranji Trophy and also scored a hundred in the Duleep Trophy and for Surrey in the English County circuit. But he was sidelined.
Devdutt Padikkal, on the other hand, looked in good touch in the Australia A game as he scored 88 in the first fixture in Mackay. After that, he looked decent in the second game as well, and his experience in the top order will be crucial for the team.
There were reports which claimed he impressed head selector Ajit Agarkar, and this was one of the main reasons he was fast-tracked for the England Tests. He slammed a solid half-century on his debut for India and ended with an innings of 65 runs.
