Facing LSG for the first time since a controversial fallout with team owner Sanjiv Goenka last season, Rahul rose to the occasion with a calm and classy unbeaten 57 off 42 balls in Lucknow.

His knock powered Delhi Capitals to a convincing eight-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow. It was DC’s second win over LSG in the ongoing IPL 2025. However, Rahul had missed DC’s narrow one-wicket win over LSG on March 4 due to the birth of his daughter.

But the Karnataka star didn’t let a single chance slip to make the LSG owner feel regret over whatever they did to him when he was with the franchise for the first three seasons, when DC faced Lucknow in the 40th game of the ongoing tournament on Tuesday.

Sanjiv Goenka’s regretful smile on KL Rahul's six goes viral

The LSG vs DC match was a high-voltage showdown, and Rahul added a perfect finishing touch by launching a six in the 18th over to seal the victory. It was the third six of his match-winning knock of an unbeaten 57 runs off 42 balls to complete a dominant chase for DC.

Earlier in the game, Rahul had already sent a statement by smacking Aiden Markram over the ropes in the 12th over. The moment became even more electric when the cameras quickly panned to Sanjiv Goenka’s reaction, which took social media by storm.

In the viral clip, the LSG owner was seen smiling in regret, with fans calling it a tight slap to Goenka for the unfair treatment given to the Indian star. As soon as the camera focused on Goenka, he was seen wearing a wry smile on his face, as the game was slipping from LSG’s grasp.

Notably, Rahul reached 5000 runs in the IPL during his match-winning knock and became the fastest player to achieve this feat in the tournament’s history. Out of the eight players who have scored over 5000 IPL runs, Rahul also has the highest batting average.

KL Rahul ignores Sanjiv Goenka after LSG vs DC match

Meanwhile, LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka walked up to KL Rahul to congratulate him after the match. However, they shook hands, but Rahul didn’t say much and quickly walked away. When Goenka’s son Shaswat tried to talk to him next, Rahul also ignored him and left.

Goenka and his son both were eager to chat, but Rahul clearly wasn’t interested, hinting that Indian batters have still not recovered from their treatment.
