Sanju Samson, on Saturday (October 12), started his innings in the ongoing third India vs Bangladesh T20I in a brilliant fashion. The right-handed batsman has been under pressure for failing to score big in the first two games and will be looking to make amends in the ongoing game.
In the first game played in Gwalior, Sanju Samson got the start but could not get going for long. He was out for 29 runs while India were chasing a modest total of 128 runs. He could not score big in the second T20I as well, getting out for 10 runs.
Following the poor display in the second game, there were calls from several quarters to drop Samson from the playing eleven. However, the Indian team management once again backed the wicketkeeper-batsman and gave him another chance to prove himself.
And Samson has started the ongoing third T20I in a very strong fashion. After Abhishek Sharma faced the first over, he took the strike in the second innings. The first two deliveries from Taskin Ahmed were dot deliveries before Sanju Samson hit four boundaries in a row.
He hit the first two fours through the cover region before playing a flick shot for another four. On the final ball of the over, the Kerala star played another flick for a four.
Talking about the game, Team India were on 97/1 in the 7th over at the time of writing this report. Samson has made the most of his start and has scored a brilliant fifty. He was batting on 50 runs off 23 balls while captain Suryakumar Yadav was unbeaten on 36.
Meanwhile, the Indian team management has made it clear that it is firmly behind Samson. While there have been calls to drop him from the team after his string of poor performances, assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate has said that the team management is very pleased with the batsman's intentions. His comments came before the third T20I.
