Legendary Pakistan all-rounder and former captain Shahid Afridi has openly insulted the young openers of the Indian cricket team, Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma, during a guess game with the Indian presenter on the sidelines of the 2024 World Championship of Legends (WCL).

Gill is currently leading the young Indian team in the ongoing five-match T20I series in Zimbabwe, and his long-time teammate Abhishek made his international debut in the first game in Harare. They both are not new or fresh faces to world cricket, but for Afridi, it seems that they haven't done anything to be recognized.

The right-handed opener has already led the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the IPL 2024 and even he is one of the brightest talents in Indian cricket. Gill has already captivated fans and former cricketers with his elegant batting style and promising talent.

The Punjab lad has been making headlines since his under-19 days for his temperament, impeccable technique, composure at the crease, and ability to play both pace and spin with equal finesse. Gill has already established himself as the future megastar, and he has now been touted as the future Indian captain.

Despite his heroics for Team India and in the IPL, Afridi has arrogantly called the stand-in India captain a “small kid” before recognizing him as Gill during the guess game with the presenter after one of the WCL 2024 games in England.

Not just that, the former Pakistan captain failed to identify Abhishek Sharma, despite the young Indian opener’s explosive batting for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), which set the IPL 2024 on fire. He was on fire with the bat in the IPL 2024 with his fiery batting for the runner-up, SRH.

He has also been seen as the future star for Team India since his under-19 days, and even though he is currently in action for the Men in Blue on the Zimbabwe tour, Afridi still couldn’t recognize him, calling him the Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan before correcting his name as Sharma.

Shahid Afridi said in the viral video on X, “I think it's new. This is the one who has a long height. I'm sorry, I can't remember his name. Abhishek Bachchan. Abhishek Sharma.” However, the former Pakistan captain quickly identified Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, and Younis Khan.

Earlier, Shahid Afridi expressed his surprise over the removal of Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq from the Pakistan selection committee by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Afridi felt it must be white-ball captain Babar Azam or coach Gary Kirsten who should be removed first from their roles, not the selectors.

Shahid Afridi said in a viral video: “We have also led Pakistan, but hardly any captain got as many chances as Babar Azam. In the past, after every World Cup, the captain used to be the first one to be sacked.”
