Swashbuckling West Indies batter Shimron Hetmyer has finished the match in style, as Seattle Orcas beat the MI New York by three wickets in the last-ball thriller at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas on June 27. It was Seattle Orcas’ first win after five straight defeats in the ongoing Major League Cricket 2025 (MLC 2025).
Shimron Hetmyer delivered a moment to remember as the Seattle Orcas finally broke their 10-match losing streak in the Major League Cricket in stunning fashion. When the Orcas needed six runs off the last ball, Hetmyer launched a six off Kieron Pollard to seal a dramatic win, as they successfully chased down 238 runs to win their first game of this season.

Facing a slower ball on leg stump from his former West Indies captain Kieron Pollard, Hetmyer crouched low, got inside the line, and flicked it over fine leg for the match-winning six. It was the highest successful run chase in Major League Cricket history.
Shimron Hetmyer played a remarkable knock of an unbeaten 97 runs off just 40 balls, studded with five boundaries and nine sixes, to power Seattle Orcas to their first win of the ongoing MLC 2025. The West Indian hard-hitter was adjudged Player of the Match for his match-winning knock.

Shimron Hetmyer said at the post-match presentation, “This one is one of the best, because our backs were against the wall, and I'm still grimacing over the last game where we couldn't cross the line. Today is one of those days where I went with a clear mind and wanted to take the game as deep as possible. Injury actually gave me a little bit of help, because I didn't want to run much.”

Seattle Orcas pull off MLC’s highest-ever chase in style
Meanwhile, the Seattle Orcas have not only opened their account in MLC 2025 by crushing MI New York by 3 wickets in one of the most thrilling matches of MLC 2025 but also recorded the highest successful run chase in the tournament’s history.
With nine needed off the final over, Kieron Pollard bowled three dots, nearly sealing the game for the MI New York. But on the last ball, Shimron Hetmyer smashed a six over square leg to seal the win in style. The Major League Cricket 2025 game saw 475 runs in total.
Nicholas Pooran’s 108* off 60 and Tajinder Singh’s explosive 95 off 35 couldn’t save MI New York. Under new captain Sikandar Raza and without a head coach, the Orcas managed to win the thriller despite early wickets and tough moments in Dallas.

Captain Raza made a quickfire 30 off 9 to set the tone, and Heinrich Klaasen chipped in with 26 off 13. Hetmyer, battling through a groin injury, turned the tide in the 16th over and then hammered three sixes in the 19th to bring the equation down to 9 off 6, and then the rest was just cinematic at the Grand Prairie Stadium
Trent Boult (3/31) and Delano Potgieter (2/46) were the standout bowlers for the MI New York against the Orcas. Earlier, MI New York had looked set for a massive total with Pooran and Tajinder adding 158 in just 68 balls.
But they could score only 19 runs in the final three overs, and they ended up posting 237 runs on the board, with Kyle Mayers and Gerald Coetzee each taking two wickets for Orcas.
