Dubai Capitals all-rounder Sikandar Raza led a remarkable chase against the Desert Vipers in the 27th match of the International League T20 2024. Sikandar Raza kept his side’s hopes alive with a last-ball six at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Friday, February 9.

The Dubai Capitals secured a nail-biting five-wicket win in their penultimate group stage match of the tournament. The Desert Vipers posted a formidable total of 171/7 runs in 20 overs after batting first. Raza guided the Capitals to victory by scoring six runs off the last ball.

During the run chase, the Capitals faced early setbacks, finding themselves at 32/3 in just 5.1 overs. However, Dubai Capitals captain Sam Billings and Sikandar Raza revived their team’s hopes with a crucial partnership of 79 runs for the fourth wicket in the chase.

In the 15th over, Matheesha Pathirana dismissed Billings, impacting the Capitals during the chase. However, Raza remained at the crease until the end, completing the task for his team. He struck a well-timed six over the long-off fielder on the final ball.

Zee Cricket took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share the moment and wrote the caption, “Dubai Capitals stay alive by the skin of their teeth & they have Raza to thank. With 6 needed on the last ball, the maestro deposits it over long off.”

Dubai Capitals are currently in fourth place in the six-team points table, with eight points. The Capitals have secured four wins out of nine matches in the tournament. The team will face MI Emirates in their final league stage match in Abu Dhabi on Saturday, February 10.

Results Are Not In My Control – Sikandar Raza

At the post-match presentation, Sikandar Raza emphasized the importance of dedication and self-belief in achieving results. Raza expressed empathy for his opponent and emphasized the importance of learning from challenges.

“I said to myself, I don’t think he’ll go short. I’ll hold my ground, and if he goes slow into the wicket I’ll take it on. Well Naseer will learn from this. We have all been under the pump as a bowler and that will teaches you valuable lessons. To bowl the 20th over at 19 years of age shows great character,” Raza said.

“I’m sorry for him but we needed this win more! I would say Faith. Faith keeps me strong. I bowl hard in the nets, and bat for long periods and then take power-hitting as a separate drill. I do the hard work and keep my belief in it, because results are not in my control,” he continued.

Sikandar Raza was awarded Player of the Match for his impressive batting performance. Raza scored an unbeaten 60 runs off 45 balls with the help of five fours and two sixes. He is currently the second-highest scorer in ILT20 2024, scoring 263 runs across nine games.
