The Women’s Indian Premier League will hold its maiden season in March of next year. It would be the first time in India that a full-fledged women’s franchise tournament will be held.

Previously, a small exhibition event for the women’s tournament was held with the men’s tournament, but from next year, the Eves will have their own tournament.

The Indian men’s cricket team has developed by leaps and bounds as a result of the IPL, and a lot of talent has emerged, so when the women’s tournament begins next year, the expectations will be the same. One may argue that women’s cricket is still underappreciated, but a league like the IPL has the potential to change that.

Since the introduction of the Women’s Big Bash League tournament, one can see how Australian women’s cricket has progressed. The Southern Stars are the current International 50-overs and T20 champions and have nearly become invincibles in world cricket.

They have won gold in the Commonwealth Games and are the number one team in all three formats of the game.

There has already been much discussion about the new event among players and spectators, and when top Indian opening batter and team vice-captain Smriti Mandhana was questioned about it recently, she offered an epic response.

The Women’s IPL Will Be Great; Smriti Mandhana

Mandhana was approached by a journalist after the Women’s Hundred match between Oval Invincibles and Southern Brave at the Kennington Oval on Sunday (August 14), after scoring a blazing 25-ball 46 in Southern Brave Women’s 12-run triumph.

The reporter asked, “With the Women’s IPL coming next year, can we expect the same kind of enthusiasm back at home as well?”

Smriti responded by saying, “I think whenever we play there is a lot of enthusiasm back home irrespective of the format. Indian fans love cricket and they turn up to support us regardless of whether it is a one-day or T20. So, the Women’s IPL will be great.”

The inaugural IPL might include five teams competing for the top prize. Because there has been a lot of interest from possible investors, the number of teams could increase to six.
