Axar Patel, on Monday (June 24), took an unbelievable catch to send back Mitchell Marsh in the ongoing Super 8 game between India and Australia at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia.

After posting a big total of 205 for 5, India started well with the ball too. Arshdeep Singh struck in the very first over to send back the dangerous David Warner for 6. Suryakumar Yadav took a brilliant catch in the slip cordon to give India the early breakthrough.

India, however, could not make further inroads as Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh soon steadied the ship for Australia. They also played aggressively to make sure their team did not fall too far behind in the big chase. At the end of the powerplay, Australia had raced away to 65 for 1.

India needed something special to break the partnership between Head and Marsh and Axar Patel did exactly that. The India allrounder took one of the best catches of the ongoing tournament if not the best to break the partnership and gave India a much-needed breakthrough.

On the final ball of the ninth over, Kuldeep Yadav bowled one onto the pads and Marsh pulled it behind square. The Australia skipper had made a good connection with the ball and was looking destined to get a six. India had position Axar Patel at that position for the same shot but it looked like Marsh's shot would go over the fielder's head easily.

However, Axar Patel had other ideas. The allrounder made a timely jump and caught the ball with his right hand while being airborne. Marsh departed after scoring 37 runs off 28 balls with the help of 3 fours and 2 sixes.

Talking about the game, Australia were on 125 for 2 after 12 overs at the time of writing this report. Head was batting on 62 off 30 balls while giving him company was Glenn Maxwell. Earlier in the game, Rohit Sharma's brilliant 92-run knock helped India post their highest total in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
