The 33-year-old South Africa National Cricket Team left-arm wrist-spinner Tabraiz Shamsi brought out his trademark “shoe-phone” celebration after dismissing the India National Cricket Team captain Suryakumar Yadav in the second T20I.
The second T20I of the three-match series between the Suryakumar Yadav-led India National Cricket Team and the Aiden Markram-led South Africa National Cricket Team is currently underway at St George’s Park in Gqeberha on Tuesday, December 12.
India were invited to bat first in the match and they were off to an awful start as both the openers – Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal – got out for ducks.
Despite the early setbacks, Suryakumar Yadav played confident cricket and scored runs at a quick pace. He added 49 runs in 24 balls with Tilak Varma to push the Proteas on the backfoot.
Tilak Varma was dismissed for 29, but Suryakumar Yadav kept going and smashed a terrific half-century. He was also involved in a brilliant 70-run partnership in 48 balls with Rinku Singh.
The No.1 ranked T20I batsman was dismissed by Tabraiz Shamsi on the 5th ball of the 14th over. The left-arm wrist-spinner bowled a googly and Suryakumar stepped out and went for a lofted shot. He didn’t hit the ball very well and it went straight into the hands of Marco Jansen at long-off.
After picking up the huge wicket, Tabraiz Shamsi was delighted and he brought out his trademark shoe-phone celebration in which he removes his shoe and acts to use it as a mobile phone to call someone.

After the wicket of the India National Cricket Team captain, the Men In Blue were left tottering at 125/4. Suryakumar smashed 56 runs off 36 balls, with 5 fours and 3 sixes, before getting dismissed.
Earlier, speaking at the toss, Suryakumar said that he was happy to be in South Africa. He also revealed that they were confused about whether to bat or ball first. He elaborated:
“Very happy to be here and happy to know there’s some cricket around. We were confused what to do, but now we are very happy to bat first. It’s an opportunity for everyone playing this game. World Cup is still 5-6 months away. Just enjoy yourself is the message to the team.”
