During the SA20 2024 match between Sunrisers Eastern Cape and MI Cape Town, Sunrisers batsman Tristan Stubbs played a brilliant unorthodox shot on the second ball of the 17th over to MI captain Kieron Pollard. The ball was within the line of the stumps, but Stubbs played a reverse sweep on the ball and smashed it for a six towards the off side. Tristan Stubbs played an innings of 23 runs from 13 balls and helped the team score a decent first innings total.
Both, Sunrisers Eastern Cape and MI Cape Town came into the match after losing their last match against Pretoria Capitals and Durban Super Giants respectively. Eastern Cape were not able to win the low-scoring match against Capitals and lost the match by 3 runs, on the other hand, MI lost against Super Giants by 36 runs.
Batting first at St George’s Park in Gqeberha, Sunrisers Eastern Cape put up a total of 175/6 in which captain Aiden Markram played an innings of 54 runs from 32 balls, whereas Tom Abell was the highest run scorer of the innings and played a knock of 60 runs from 44 balls.

Sunrisers Eastern Cape lost opener Jordan Hermann early for 2 runs, whereas, Dawid Malan also was not able to do much and had to walk back to the dressing room for 18 runs from 22 balls. Before getting dismissed, Malan had added 54 runs from 45 balls for the second wicket.
After the dismissal of Dawid Malan, Tom Abell put up a stand of 63 runs from 35 balls for the 3rd wicket with Aiden Markram and gave the necessary push to the Sunrisers Eastern Cape innings. Both the batsmen played some sensible shots during their stay at the crease and also helped their team gain momentum.
After the fall of Tom Abell, Aiden Markram added 42 runs from 25 balls for the 4th wicket and gave the innings the much-needed finish. At last, Sunrisers Eastern Cape ended their innings at 175/6.
Nuwan Thushara and Kagiso Rabada picked up 2 wickets each for MI Cape Town, whereas Kieron Pollard and Thomas Kaber picked up 1 wicket apiece.
Chasing down-the-target, MI Cape Town lost, opener Rassie van der Dussen early for a score of 2 runs. Ryan Rickleton and Liam Livingstone added 33 runs for the second wicket whereas, Sam Curran and Livingstone put up 36 runs from 27 balls for the third wicket. Rickleton was dismissed by Marco Jansen for 27 runs whereas Liam Livingstone had to depart for 26 runs. Sam Curran also made a valuable contribution and departed after scoring 30 runs.
MI Cape Town have scored 150 runs for the loss of five wickets until the 18th over. MI need 26 more runs to win off the last 12 balls. With Kieron Pollard, still at the crease, MI Cape Town can win this match, however, Sunrisers Eastern Cape cannot also be ruled out from winning the match.
Sunrisers Eastern Cape and MI Cape Town are placed in the 3rd and 4th spot respectively on the points table. Sunrisers have been able to win 3 out of six games, whereas, MI have ended up on the winning end on 2 occasions out of 6.
