Jonny Bairstow’s controversial dismissal has very much overshadowed the thrilling second Ashes Test between Australia and England at Lord’s. The Ashes rivals played out yet another classic Test that came to an end on Sunday (July 2).

Australia survived a huge scare from Ben Stokes to bowl out England for 327 and register a hard-fought 43-run win. The visitors now lead the five-match series by 2-0. But despite the thrilling Test and the stunning 155-run knock from Stokes, all the focus has been on Bairstow’s dismissal in the first session on the final day of the Test.

With England in dire need of a good stand after losing Ben Duckett early in the first session, they would have wanted Stokes and Bairstow to stitch together a big stand. However, Bairstow could score only 10 before Alex Carey sent him back in a manner that has not gone down well with the English fraternity.

The right-handed batsman was stumped by Carey when he walked out of the crease after ducking under a short ball from Cameron Green, seemingly believing that the ball was dead. Following the dismissal, English fans and experts have heavily criticized Australia for showing a lack of sportsmanship. England head coach Brendon McCullum was also not delighted with the incident and said that England is unlikely to share beers with the Australians any time soon.

With the cricketing world still busy debating Jonny Bairstow’s dismissal, footage has emerged from the first innings of the same Test that show the England wicketkeeper himself trying something similar. The incident took place when Marnus Labuschagne was batting.

After leaving a delivery outside off stump from James Anderson, Labuschagne was standing near the crease when Bairstow took an aim at the stumps. But unlike Carey, the England star failed to hit the stumps. Australian fans have been sharing the clip to take shots at Bairstow as well as the English team.
