Josh Inglis fails in IPL debut for PBKS

Inglis has emerged as one of the top performers for the Australia National Cricket Team in the past 12 months. His heroics in international cricket helped him gain the attention in the Indian Premier League auction.

The wicketkeeper-batsman Josh Inglis was roped in by the Ricky Ponting-coached Punjab Kings for INR 2.60 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction

He got the opportunity to make his debut in the Indian Premier League against Kolkata Knight Riders. Josh Inglis surprisingly replaced Marcus Stoinis in the playing XI and not Glenn Maxwell.

The wicketkeeper-batsman coming in as a replacement for Stoinis surprised many because 'the Hulk' had played a stunning knock in the previous match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and hit Mohammed Shami for four consecutive sixes.

Meanwhile, Josh Inglis was unable to make an impact with the bat on his IPL debut. He was dismissed by Varun Chakravarthy for a 6-ball 2 in the 5th over.

On the 5th ball of the over, Josh Inglis decided to sweep the ball with no variation from Varun Chakravarthy and the ball skidded off, beat the bat, and crashed into the stumps.

How can Punjab Kings overcome defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad?

Ahead of the PBKS vs KKR clash, Ian Bishop was asked in an interaction on ESPNCricinfo how PBKS can overcome the thrashing they suffered at the hands of Sunrisers Hyderabad by allowing them to chase 246 runs. He replied:

"You welcome the fact that you're not playing against them and you're not playing on that ground. I mean, you've gone through a bashing, basically. So, I would think that they'd be quite happy to get back to Mullanpur where it's swinging a little bit. It's a good surface there. So, I think anything less than that type of Abhishek Innings, you're quite happy to settle back into your rhythm."

Meanwhile, Abhinav Mukund said that Shreyas Iyer should remind his teammates that he led KKR to the title last year even after PBKS chased down 262 against KKR. He elaborated:

"First things first, if I was Shreyas Iyer, I'd be like, I lost last year to Punjab Kings and I had 260. And we went on to win the title. That's what I'd be telling the dressing room. It's fine. 246. Yeah, we lost one game. We're still okay. So, then, the problem with replacing Lockie Ferguson with Vijaykumar is I feel the attack becomes a little bit one-dimensional where you don't have that express pace option.

"Lot is dependent on Arshdeep Singh and Marco Jansen. But then you'll have to trust in someone like Xavier Bartlett or Aaron Hardie. So, there lies in your combination. They were very risky at the start of the season where they went four bowlers plus Maxwell, Stoinis did the fifth bowler's job. So, do they trust Stoinis a bit more and bring in Vijaykumar? I definitely think it's a straight show-in for Vijaykumar if need be because they need a middle-to-death-overs bowler."
