Rohit Sharma’s performance, both as a batter and captain in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, is not hidden from anyone. As India has found itself in a crunching situation, Virat Kohli stepped up to help Rohit Sharma in the ongoing third Test against Australia at The Gabba, Brisbane.
The Australian cricket team was aiming to pile up some quick runs, but the Indian bowlers didn’t allow that, rather taking quick wickets on Day 5 of the ongoing third Test at The Gabba. Well, during the thrilling session, it was Virat Kohli’s gesture that caught the attention of one and all.
Virat Kohli guides Rohit Sharma and Mohammed Siraj to dismiss Steve Smith in Brisbane
Actually, the former Indian captain was seen helping the clueless Rohit Sharma in strategizing Steve Smith’s wicket. As Rohit Sharma and Mohammed Siraj were planning for Smith, Kohli himself approached the duo and shared the plot, and the Australian batter got caught in it at The Gabba.

Later, Mohammed Siraj delivered a good-length ball angled in, sliding down the leg side as Steve Smith shuffled across to glance it fine. Unfortunately, the right-hander got a faint edge, and the ball went down the leg side.
Showcasing excellent reflexes, Indian keeper Rishabh Pant dived full length to his left to take a stunning catch as the ball kept moving away with the angle. Mohammed Siraj was pumped up after taking the big wicket, as Smith departed for 4 off 5 balls, and Australia found themselves in deep trouble, losing half their side for just 33 runs at that moment against India in the Gabba Test.

Rain continues to frustrate players in the Gabba Test
Well, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Akash Deep quickly dismantled the Australian batting lineup as they attempted to score quickly. Australia eventually declared at 89/7, setting India a target of 275 runs to win the ongoing third Test at The Gabba on Day 5.
KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal safely navigated the 13 balls they faced before bad light forced the players off the field, as the match officials announced the tea break. Well, it is still raining in Brisbane, and the play seems impossible anytime soon, as the draw seems to be the result of the Gabba Test.
Virat Kohli needs Gautam Gambhir-Abhishek Nayar's help?
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli is struggling with a recurring issue—balls outside the off-stump. In the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, all of Kohli’s dismissals have come from edging deliveries pitched on the fourth or fifth stump against Australia.
Despite his immense skill and fitness, Virat Kohli seems unable to find a solution to this problem. At 36, reflexes and muscle memory play a bigger role than sheer fitness, and that’s where Kohli is facing challenges. Kohli looks in perfect form at the nets, but he continues to play at those outside off-stump deliveries during the matches, leading to his frustrating dismissals.
With India paying the price for this recurring flaw, former India batter Devang Gandhi suggested that it’s time for the coaches to step in and work closely with Kohli. Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir and assistant-cum-batting coach Abhishek Nayar must dedicate time to help Kohli address this weakness. However, Gandhi felt finding a solution won’t be easy for Kohli.
