A fan, who was wearing the No.18 jersey of Virat Kohli, had intruded the field right before the start of 2nd innings of the 1st Test between India and England and touched the feet of Indian captain Rohit Sharma who was standing at the non-striker’s end while Yashasvi Jaiswal was taking the guard for the first ball of 2nd innings in Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi stadium.

Rohit Sharma after realizing the fan was there to touch his feet, remained blank-faced as a security personnel went after the fan and took him out of the field. The incident created a little bit of a light-hearted moment amid the intense contest between the two cricketing giants.

The intense contest meanwhile has been more or less dominated by the Indian team right from the 1st innings. After England started off in a dominant manner with Ben Duckett and Zak Crawly displaying Bazball in full flow. The duo were taking on the Indian bowling attack very well and had maintained a run rate of over 4 in the first few overs.

England scored 50 runs by the 10th over but as soon as spinners were introduced in the game, Duckett and Crawley both started to struggle. Even before the series had started, the former had stated that he is wary of the threat posed by Ravichandran Aswhin and called him the best spinner in all type of conditions.

And it was the same Ashwin who took Duckett’s wicket in what was the 4th time the off-spinner removed him in a Test match. Soon later, Ravindra Jadeja joined the party and led to the removal of Ollie Pope before Zak Crawley became Ashwin’s 2nd wicket of the 1st session.

2 new batters – Bairstow and Joe Root were on the crease by the 16th over and the duo steadied England’s ship to some extent and brought back the dominance of England back in the 1st session. However, moments after the 2nd session began, Bairstow received his marching orders from Axar Patel with a clean bowled before Joe Root got out while attempting to play a sweep shot.

English captain Ben Stokes held on to one end as wickets kept falling from the other. Ben Foakes and Rehan Ahmed departed from the middle after scoring 4 and 13 while Stokes kept the resistance on with Tom Hartley and then with Mark Wood who scored 23 and 11 respectively.

Ben Stokes was England’s best batsman as he scored 70 runs with England folding out for 246. One of the highlights of the 1st innings from India’s perspective was that skipper Rohit Sharma used all 3 DRS and all 3 of them were unsuccessful. But nonetheless, Jadeja and Ashwin scalped 3 wickets each while Bumrah and Axar Patel collected a brace each.

In the 2nd innings after the fan touched Rohit Sharma’s feet, Yashasvi Jaiswal took the onus and applied the Bazball style of cricket of his own, scoring a quickfire century. But as Rohit Sharma was trying to match his intensity, the 35-year-old ended up handing his wicket to spinner Jack Leach with Ben Stokes completing a successful catch. India currently trail by 163 runs.
