Rest of India batter Yash Dhull was involved in an ugly altercation with Vidarbha pace bowler Yash Thakur during the Irani Cup match at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur. The incident occurred on the 5th day (Sunday, October 5) during the Rest of India’s second innings of the red-ball fixture.

Rest of India began the chase on the final day of the Irani Cup at a total of 30/2 while chasing a massive target of 361 runs. However, their hopes were dashed when overnight batter Rajat Patidar, who resumed on 2 runs, managed to score only 10 before being dismissed by Aditya Thakare in the morning session.

However, the atmosphere quickly turned tense when Dhull and Yash Thakur got into a heated argument following the wicket. The altercation involved aggressive gestures and verbal exchanges, nearly escalating into a physical confrontation before other players and match officials stepped in.

The incident occurred when Dhull was just eight runs short of a well-deserved hundred, and both players are expected to face financial penalties from the match referee for their conduct.

Anshul Kamoj Pick of Bowlers For Rest of India in 2nd Innings

On day 4, Vidarbha put themselves in a strong position to claim the Irani Cup by setting Rest of India a target of 361 and taking two early wickets in the fourth innings.

Vidarbha’s middle and lower order stabilized the innings after early trouble from Anshul Kamboj and Saransh Jain. Akshay Wadkar (36), Harsh Dubey (29), and Darshan Nalkande (39) lifted the team total from 105/5 to 232.

Kamboj emerged as the standout bowler for Rest of India, dismissing Vidarbha’s Nos. 3 to 6 in quick succession. The right-arm fast bowler finished with impressive figures of 4 for 34 in just 12 overs.

IPL Superstars' Performances in Irani Trophy Clash

Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ishan Kishan, and Rajat Patidar are currently not in the scheme of India’s international plans across formats. While Patidar continues to impress in domestic cricket, Gaikwad and Kishan have struggled to make a strong case for a comeback.

In the Irani Cup, expectations were high for the IPL stars to deliver big runs for the Rest of India, but both failed to capitalize. Gaikwad, who also serves as the team’s vice-captain, scored only 9 in the first innings and 7 in the second.

Kishan recorded scores of 1 and 35 runs in the match. After an underwhelming IPL season with SunRisers Hyderabad, Kishan suffered a setback when a scooter accident ruled him out of the England tour as a backup wicketkeeper.
